Should I part with my Merrick Visa Card that carries a $72 yearly A.fee?

I got this card back in 2011 when I started rebuilding my credit but had no clue what I was doing until I stumbled accross this comminuty the end on 2014. Anyway, here are all of my open credit card accounts. Is it worth it to keep Merrick opened at this point? I am holding on to it because I want to buy a house in the next 9-12 months and I thought it'll help my AAoA. Other than my Cap1 QS1 card, I do have a US DOE/Student Loan that has been opened and reporting since 2010. All of my other accounts date back from 2003 to 2009 but they are all closed.

So should I keep Merrick? Is it still a benefit to me? I just paid them my AF of $72 and have a credit of -$66. THANKS AGAIN!!

Dump it. You're well past the point of needing it.

you've far outgrown it. it's understandable being attached to something that helped you rebuild but you qualify for much better now. dump the dead weight

I don't quite get: "I just paid them my AF of $72 and have a credit of -$66". What's the credit from?

If you just paid the AF you're a little late in asking. If you just paid it you might as well keep the card another 11 months until the next AF is due. I don't pay CC companies any fees to carry/use their cards, I dumped my Best Buy Visa I've had since 2011 because Citi wouldn't budge on the $59 AF that HSBC attached to the card when they issued it.

I've also had a Merrick Visa since 2011, but it's never had any fees, and with a CL of $3100 I'm keeping it even though I've way outgrown it. I just let a few small monthly bill charge to it to keep it active, the $3100 CL helps offset my utilization % from monthly PIF usgage and some 0% BTs & intro promos.

They normally charge the AF on a monthly basis ($6 per month) but I paid the whole thing instead thus leaving a credit. If I dump them today, they will issue me a credit. I don't use it, I last used it about a year ago.

Re: Should I part with my Merrick Visa Card that carries a $72 yearly A.fee?

Sorry, I know this is mildly off topic, but have you asked Cap One if they'll upgrade your QS1 to a QS so that annual fee goes away permenantly?  If they would it'd be one less thing to worry about, anyway.

On topic: for your Merrick card, yeah, you've definitely outgrown it.  It could go away.  I'd have them send you your check and let them go.

That card was actually an old HouseHold Bank CC and remained when Cap1 bought Household Bank. I tried to get rid of that fee but they said the fee came with the card so they can't remove it. I'll just keep asking them to refund it when it hits. Maybe I should call them and ask again but I do not feel like talking to India today (not trying to offend anyone) LOL
