Should I request JCP to combine?

I have 3 JCpenney accounts showing up on my credit report, one of them which I currently use...the other two are from 1997 sitting open with $200 credt limit's each.  I'm thinking I must have applied multiple times and didn't know they created 3 accounts for me?

Anyway, should I call JCPenney and see if they would combine the three cards into one reporting on my CR and give me all of the credit limits rolled into one?

My current scores are all about 500 right now so not sure how JCP would handle that request and if that would look better on my credit report (as I do have lates on the account that is currently in use) if they were combined?

Re: Should I request JCP to combine?

For me it'd be a whole lot easier to have just one card, with CL's from each combined into the one. Plus you don't have to worry about pushing, or going over the CL, as much as you have to now.

How old are the baddies, and how bad are they? I'd say that the older they are the better chance you have to get your way. Good luck. Smiley Happy

Re: Should I request JCP to combine?

I called and the rep said she couldn't combine them, but she could close out the other two accounts and see if my current account was eligible for a CLI (which they would pull a hard inq. for).

So, I opted to keep the other two accounts open, since they are showing positive history since 1997 and I guess that would be better than closing them out?

And chose not to request the CLI cuz I knew I'd be denied it!

Gosh, that's almost like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Smiley Happy

Will they keep the 2 open while the check your CR to see if you're eligible for a cli? If so, how much?

You make a good point for keeping them, as they have positive history.

If you are current on all 3, I'd say keep all 3, as age will diminish the lates.
