I have both (just because I never got round to closing my Amazon Visa) but one advantage is if you spend a lot at Amazon. Sallie Mae is capped at $9K a year, so the extra 2% on purchases above that could be useful. (if you don't have anotehr 5% card, like Ink or Cash Plus set to bookstores).
At least in the past, there are also some travel rewards which slightly increase the value.

Thanks for the answer! The cap didn't occur to me since I never spend that much on Amazon.

celluloid17 - was able to set my US Bank Cash+ alerts so that I could receive notification of pending charges that included the dollar amount and name of the vendor. Understand your desire to see it right on the online.
That's a good idea! I should set alerts for transactions. I'm more concerned about catching errors in transactions quickly, which is why I don't get why they don't show the pending amounts on the website, but do on the app?! Weird!
