I called in yesterday to request a 4X CLI. The credit analyst reassured me that the bank policy would not allow anything more than a 200% increase in credit limit at a time. I've put all my spending on the Amex credit card for the past 2-3 months, and I tried to explain to her that my request was reasonable since my starting limit was relatively low, and I already had another credit card that has the requested credit limit. That led to nowhere and I had to be content with a 3X.
Sounds like my personal experience is pretty consistent with others. I guess Amex won't give anyone more than a 3X if that's their policy.

You can try the EO. Good luck!

So you requested 4X your CLI and your mad you didn't get it ??? Smh.
I don't think he's "mad," but just reporting the results of the request, sort of like in a clincial trial.
Gratz! With one of the most generous lenders for increases, doesn't make sense to push it, unless are ok with possibly increasing odds of F/R. In any case, it's a guideline, it is possible to get more with the right profile and docs. IMHO for the less than exceptional instance, wouldn't be worth the complication, since the CL can grow nicely over time.

+1.
Basically he's just proving one can only request 3X, nothing more, with Amex. Other lenders, such as Citi, BofA, Chase, can issue more than 3X CLI if the customer deserves one. That being said, 3X increase in CLI is more than sufficient for most people.
It was worth a shot, nothing ventured nothing gained....
You should have asked for 3.14159 X just to confuse them.
