Re: Solicited in Line at the Bank?

If BofA did that to me, I'd say "Approve me for at least $5k with no hard pull and I will do it"

I was in line at BoA making a deposit and the teller said I was pre-appoved for a 2500 line with 0% balance transfer and 0% cash advance for a year...and I was like, "um...not right now" and he  named off all the benefits of the card and we being kind of forceful...I kept declining, finally he said, "Okay, but is it okay if we offer you this in the future?"

It's not just BoA ... most of the banks reward their tellers for referring customers to personal bankers so they can collect more customer data or attempt to cross-sell other products.

When I was going through the drive-thru at Chase the other day, they invited me to participate in a "scratch-off" card promotion.  Well ... OK ... I figured they could just give me the card with my deposit slip.  But ... noooooo ... they THEN told me that I needed to drive around front, park and go inside to see a personal banker.  OK then ... "can I do it later?"  The teller disappeared for several minutes and came back and said, "Sure ... you can come back later today."  I suppose she was taking my information and card to the personal bankers so she could let them know that SHE was the one who got me to go inside the bank.

My daughter works at Chase and said that they recently had a branch related promotion.  Even at the drive thrus they were supposed to snag customers and get them to come inside to speak with a personal banker.  The promotion was supposed to provide a certain number of "gift cards" and a toaster oven.  The more annoying part is that the toaster oven ended up in the branch's break room. Smiley Sad
