Sony Visa from Comenity?

Hi, I've applied for this card some time ago and was denied, but nowadays I'm receiving emails to apply for it.

I've checked some reviews and the redemption process seems cumbersome, but this was quite enticing to me, planning to attend Indian Wells tennis tournament(that's the reason I applied for CO SO in the first place, to get that 3% for entertainment);

'Earn 5X points on entertainment purchases such as tickets for movies, concerts and sporting events.'

Can't find any merchant code though, and dunno for indian wells, maybe I should ask them directly..

Can any user of this card comment on it, is it worth having it, even if one is not a sony enthusiast, thank you. I probably will just garden for now(7/6 cards and just too many inquires with short credit history from Apr. last year), but just want to know my option. Don't have any Visa one, that's another reason for temptation.

Re: Sony Visa from Comenity?

The card has a fairly broad definition of entertainment, but not quite as open as the category was on Citi Premier.  It's doubtful they will know what their MCC code is and it depends on how it was set up.  If it was correctly coded as an entertainment venue, it should, but it's possible it may also code as a sports leisure club since they do offer those services.

I believe the points are worth less than a penny each so 5x would not equal 5% and I've heard the rewards can be both quirky to redeem and quirky to earn if you make Sony purchases that aren't direct.

Re: Sony Visa from Comenity?

In short, if you are a sony enthusiast, maybe, if you are not, not worth it at all. Reward structure/redeption is not friendly, and there are better CC options out there.

I have this card for a long time. I am not a Sony enthusiast, I applied for this card because there was a $200 statement credit after $500 spend SUB, and have been keeping this card for over 10 years for my credit profile without creating a reward account. I just created the reward account, points expires in 5 years, and if you are not an Active Member during any eighteen (18) month period, all Points in your Account will expire at the end of such eighteen (18) month period. An “Active Member” is a Member that has Point earning or redeeming activity. You have to buy huge amounts of Sony products to make it worthwhile. You can go to https://www.rewards.sony.com/ Redeem tap to see the Sony products/gift cards that your points can redeem for. Overall, just not worth the hassle unless you are a super Sony fan.
