Successful BT from Goldman Sachs Apple Card

Hello everyone,

I saw a post regarding BT from the GS Apple Card on the forums here two weeks ago. (Here’s the post: https://ficoforums.myfico.com/t5/Credit-Cards/BEWARE-of-Balance-Transfer-from-Apple-Card-to-Another/...)

According to where the post ended up, GS doesn’t accept BT payments, but here are my experiences with that. At the time of the post I had already submitted a balance transfer from my Apple Card to Discover in order to take advantage of a 0% BT APR on my Discover for my MacBook Pro purchase. The BT was submitted on 11/01 and by 11/08 funds had been sent. That being said, it was 11/15 and I saw no payment reflect on my Apple Card (so I owed both GS and Discover the money, ouch!). I messaged Discover on the app, I provided them with details about my issue and they opened an investigation after requesting the account number (I gave them the 16 digit card number from the wallet app) and they asked for the routing number (I literally just googled Goldman Sachs routing number), and then they asked for a payment address for GS. This was a little more difficult. The wallet app doesn’t provide us with an address so I just searched the Apple website and it says the card is issued by the GS Salt Lake City branch. So I looked up the address and found : 222 Main St, Salt Lake City, UT 84101 and 111 S Main St, Salt Lake City, UT 84111.

With my original request I submitted the 222 address, but clearly that wasn’t working? So for the investigation I gave Discover both addresses and told them that I couldn’t figure out which it was, but that clearly the 222 address wasn’t working. I’m going to say it’s safe to assume that they used the 111 address given that last night I received a notification from the wallet app about a payment in the amount of the BT. So success!!!

So, while I’m under slightly different circumstances (I used Discover vs they used Citi), I did find a solution to the fiasco! Honestly, it was super easy, albeit it took nearly 3 weeks, but I did wait a week after funds were sent to message Discover about opening an investigation.

Posting this in case anyone ever needs help with BT from the GS Apple Card! The amount in the BT was $3400.

Re: Successful BT from Goldman Sachs Apple Card

Very interesting data point. I'm guessing it's pretty much impossible for Apple to completely prevent this from happening but do be aware as pointed out in the first thread that doing this is technically a violation of the terms and services. In regards to possible consequences I have no idea what those are but I'd be careful doing this regularly since Apple seems to be against it. That being said, congrats on the successful BT!

Re: Successful BT from Goldman Sachs Apple Card

I thought Discover was one of the CC that will just give you a balance transfer check if you request it.

Then you could just deposit it into your bank and pay Apple from it.

You're correct. Disco will give you a BT check or direct deposit the BT amount into your checking account, something I learned was possible from @AverageJoesCredit earlier this year.

Re: Successful BT from Goldman Sachs Apple Card

@Morpho Interesting, I forgot I had some BT checks in my desk that they mailed me last month. Maybe Discover sent them a check, I’m not entirely sure, but the payment is showing up as an ‘offline payment’.

Re: Successful BT from Goldman Sachs Apple Card

@CreditInspired direct deposit into your bank account?? Whaaaat? That would easily circumvent any issues people had doing a BT with Goldman Sachs lol. Wish I’d known Discover was this cool. Thanks for the tip!
