Re: Synchrony Credit Axe -- Synchrony 6, Me 1

Yeah I felt like when this happened I had noticed an uptick of other people reporting similar exeperiences within the last 30 days on several forums. While it could just be that I didn't really take notice until hit happened to me and brought my intention back to "The Synchrony Ways", it certainly might be a sign of some upcoming belt-tightening with Synchrony. Hard to say.

Re: Synchrony Credit Axe -- Synchrony 6, Me 1

Negative Ghost Rider. Just taking out some rightful frustration on the CSR who was the face of the company, unfortunately. Having worked in customer service is a youngin', it's sort of what you sign up for.

If this is a longstanding practice/algorithm for Synchrony (as we know it is), the CSRs are familiar with it too. Nobody calls them up to thank them for suddenly closing all of their accounts without warning.

Never found an employer or call center position where I got to join the "happy, care-free customer" department. :-) If so, point me in the direction of that utopia so I can explore network admin positions with them.

Re: Synchrony Credit Axe -- Synchrony 6, Me 1

Oh he had no idea why I was upset, at least at first. If he hasn't dealt with this before, I'm sure he is a newer employee.

Also (to repeat a very recent reply to another post), they totally had reasons. I'm a big boy and I don't poke the bear. I slap him in the face, insult his mother, and blast Justin Beiber music.

Working against me:
1.) CH7 that doesn't fall off until Jan 2024.
2.) Never carring balances.
3.) Frequent (biweekly) CLI checks on many of the synchrony accounts.
4.) Several new accounts over the past 6-12 months. Higher-than-normal number of inquiries in the past 12 months.
5.) Infrequent use of cards (1-2 purchases a month on each).
6.) Credit limit increases of about $16K on a few accounts just days before this happened.
7.) Higher-than-normal number of accounts/exposure compared to the average consumer.

Was I high-risk in the traditional sense? Nope. Am I high-risk if you consider a more business-oriented definition of risk where risk is just general loss (AKA not making any money or even losing money), absolutely. Pad that with a lot of the above numbers, and it totally makes sense.

What doesn't make sense is how they go about the whole process. But--neither here nor there. Done with them. Onward and upward.

Re: Synchrony Credit Axe -- Synchrony 6, Me 1

Agree 100% on CH7 (and all other factors I mentioned on this and other threads related to the incident).

Disagree on the CSR interaction. There's probably ways that they can tweak their algorithms and overall lending practices to prevent a full-on closure of all accounts without warning. If I had gone somewhere feeling "comfy" with only my driver's license, Venmo Card, and Sam's Club card (for example) and needed gas or to make a purchase--only to find out I effectively had no money with me (unless I could find someone that accepts Apple Pay nearby)--I would have been TRULY pissed (and understandbly so).

Customer Service Representatives are just that. They are reprensenting their company for all things customer service. Sometimes customers are upset. Sometimes they are REALLY upset. Last night, the CSR got someone who was at the tail end of being really upset. Nothing over-the-line or directed at him directly.

If I drive my car away from a Discount Tire center in Phoenix before a road trip to Orange County, CA, and my tires/wheels came off before coming into Riverside, I would probably be a bit "heated' with the Discount Tire rep in Riverside. ("YOU guys didn't properly tighten the lug nuts/secure the wheels to my vehicle! I could have been killed!") I wouldn't be blaming or attacking him directly, I'd be blaming or attacking the company as a whole for my experience. The CSR or Manger at the Riverside location would just be the face of  the company at the time.

That's sort of how customer service works, and often times people have the right to be upset and express it.

Re: Synchrony Credit Axe -- Synchrony 6, Me 1

Aww man, @azdude480 sorry you became victim #287,224......I really am. I may be the single-most "non-advocate" of SyncB and their "business practices" , but it still pains me to see these stories......especially in today's inflated market.  I can tell how much it bothered you by reading your post. And it should.

And @Brian_Earl_Spilner did hit on something that I've brought up before.  No one knows exactly what triggers SyncB's actions and what their definition of "risk" is. So that's exactly why I have made it a point to have not more than 1 credit card per lender. If something goes south with a single lender, then you lose a single account, not 6, etc.

But you hang around here long enough, you learn about certain lenders and SyncB still falls into the predatory category for me. (Disclaimer: my opinion only) So good for you, @azdude480  for leaving them behind....I don't blame you one bit. You'll rebound from this eventually, just stick to major lenders and stay away from store cards.

(And as a child of the 80's......I was stoked about your "rad" reference! I think I may still have some parachute pants and a Member's Only jacket tucked away in a box somewhere.....along with my cassette tapes)

You work for a company (especially one where this is a common occurence), you know what you're signing up for. Intention wasn't to take it out on the CSR, it was cathartic. Unortunately, I was just pointing out the obvious... issues... with the logic in their algorithsm.

I doubt if anyone signing up to work for Sync is aware in any way that a tiny group of MyFico types ("They have HOW many credit cards?????") sometimes suffer AA.   My guess is most of the regular customers don't except when they pay late etc.

But people working as CSRs as aware that they may well get abused. (Mod cut-not here please, sir)

Re: Synchrony Credit Axe -- Synchrony 6, Me 1

Thanks @Taurus22 . Yeah that was the bright side for me. I lost a lot of "padding" (I guess that's what the cool kids call it), but thankfully all of my eggs aren't in one basket and SyncB accounts are not my oldest. (And thankfully I don't carry balances like younger, struggling, misguided, pre-CH7 me would do. If I did, dropping that much available credit would have tanked the utilization and my scores for sure.

They all seem to have dropped a full, singular, solid point.  We will rebuild. Smiley Happy

Re: Synchrony Credit Axe -- Synchrony 6, Me 1

Sorry for this to have happened to you. Good for you to be able to bring yourself out of all phases of anger and grief.

I'm totally clueless about Synchrony. I don't want to open anything with their cards anymore. I have closed their Rakuten card. I only have PayPal MC and Amazon Prime Store card with them, which I'm gonna close after I make sure Chase Amazon VS is not giving me any problem for the next few months..
