Long unused JC Penny card. DW is an AU.
It's been sitting with a $6k limit and they wouldn't budge.
On Friday, the limit got lowered to $524.
...as I KNOW what the xx24 rule means, I logged in this morning and requested a CLI.
New credit limit, $10k.
Now let's see if they shut it down all together...
Oh yes the famous limit ending in 24🙄

Gotta love Synchrony! 🙄 ![]()
I think you'll be fine, though. I've been waiting for the other shoe to drop since adding my Venmo Visa last year, and so far everything has been fine <fingers crossed>. Hopefully I didn't just jinx myself, LOL. ![]()
My wife also had a JCPenney card where the limit was decreased from 8k to 524 since it had not been used in 18 months. We decided to just close the card since we never shop there anymore. So what is the deal with their xx24 limits?

This was how they closed all my accounts down a few years ago. Lowered limit on a card and I request it back, got it, then they closed all accounts.
Synchrony is an odd duck. Prequal for $3037 limit? What in the meth is this?

You were a little too "leet" for $1,337 so they added some more to it lol.

Congrats! Thanks for letting us in on this unknown secret ![]()
Synchrony's habit of cutting limits or what I would consider quickly closing cards for non-use were major reason I have given them a wide berth lately, @tcbofade. I just ventured back into their fold with a Verizon Visa, but that's a card that is more useful to me than their store cards. (It can get recurring monthly cell phone charges plus it is rewarding outside of charges at Verizon.)
I had multiple J.C. Penney cards over the years that Synchrony closed for non-use without advising me. Sometimes, I'd carry my card into the store to use it and find it already closed.
They closed my Haverty's furniture store card a couple of years after I paid off a balance, so IMO any stores where you make infrequent but larger purchases and use a Synchrony card for financing may only be useful for that specific charge. And after PayPal sold off PayPal Credit accounts to Synchrony to manage, they closed my PayPal credit account for non-use exactly six months after they assumed it. Plus the account was previously a hidden trade line, but they started reporting it before the closure. They definitely like to see their cards swiped.

I was also annoyed when they closed my PayPal account at six months after buying from PayPal as I had not even realized the change in ownership. I use PayPal all the time but would never bother with a hard inquiry and new account to reopen a PayPal account. I do use the Amazon store card quite a bit for the 5 percent discount when paying in full, I find that useful.
