Right now I have the Target Red card credit card (for use only in target).
because it is only for use in target, it doesn't get used very often. If I could get TD Bank to use grade this to the mc/visa it'd get a lot more use.
Meanwhile, every month, I get email and postal solicitations from TD Bank for their other cards that don't really do a lot for me.
Is there a way ot get TD Bank to bump up my existing red card so that it's more useful?
Short answer is no.
Their initial application process changed maybe about a year ago such that some new applicants may end up with a MasterCard immediately but for an existing RedCard holder they only way to upgrade the store card is still for TD to unilaterally decide to upgrade you.
Consider yourself lucky..I've had the card for 3 months and so far no invites. I've already been declined earlier in the year for regular td cards so I don't plan on applying until I get some pre approval flyers..

And to add upon that point, once your store only card reaches a CL of $4000 (avg), it typically gets upgraded to the MC version.
that helps. my CL on the red card is $2k or $3k and it never changes (i would never spend thst much at target!) I spend, at most, a few hundred dollars each month.
When did you open your Redcard?
Typically, it took over 3 years to get the MC upgrade.
it's been at least three years...
Even long before TD took over the Target credit portfolio, the mysteries of when a store cardholder would be offered a Target Visa were discussed constantly on internet credit forums. I had a Target Visa from 2004 to 2017 which I included in my Chapter 13. Until/unless TD begins offering the MC as a direct app, I'll stick with my Target Red Debit card.
"Criminally low limits"? I honestly don't understand that comment.
Shortly after my Chapter 13 was discharged they granted me a secured TDCash card; in the three years I've had it the card has grown to a credit limit of $11,500. As for differences between their branded cards and the Target Redcard, I have been led to understand they are two completely different underwriting groups; one plays by the rules set forth by Target, and the other plays by the rules of TD Bank.
Chapter 13:
I categorically refuse to do AZEO!
