I went for the 3x CLI on my BCP and they countered with 2x. I took it.
What's the rule of thumb?
Do most people take the counter offer or skip it for the later attempt?
Looks like I need to start swiping my BCP more.
I took mine when offered 2x. I figured it’s better than nothing.
You do do make a valid point about swipping more. I’m coming up on another 6 months and I’m thinking of holding off to A) lower my overall utilization, B) move auto pays over to BCP, C) up those swipes.
I will generally take it unless the counter offer is super low. Then I wait a month and try again.

Unless you think your profile and relationship with Amex is going to change drastically over the next few months, you may as well always take their counter-offer and set a calendar reminder for 181 days after to ask for a 3x again.

Most people take the counter offer. What is the other option wait two months and then you get the same 2x and then you have to wait 8 months instead of 6 months to get your next CLI? I started out with 2 1k cards. First card got triple at 2 weeks to 3k. Then asked for 3x at 6 months later and got 2x to 6k. Then 4 months later I opened another Amex card and got a 25k limit on it. I think your best best bet is to use the card if your credit score improves get another credit card. You can have 5 AMEX credit cards plus as many charge cards as you want.
I took the counter offer on the Everyday and the next day Amex autocli the BCE so to me that’s a win.
