Target REDcard can't pay statement balance due to credit. How do I pay this to avoid interest?

Been awhile since i've been around here.

Happen to recieved a credit from Target after my statement posted. With that said when trying to pay the statement balance i get "The payment amount cannot exceed the current balance."

As far as i'm aware you MUST pay the statement balance regardless if you have a credit or not to avoid interest. Even if it creates a negative balance. However, With Target it's not letting me to do.  Perhaps you don't have to and the credit counts as a payment?

Thanks for the input.

I'm trying to understand... Your statement cut with a balance. The credit from Target was credited to the account after statement cut, leaving you with a positive credit on the account?

If the credit exceeded the statement balance, then nothing is due. That's my understanding.

What happend was I received a credit after my statement posted. It brought my current balance to less then the statement balance.

As a result when I attempt to pay the statement balance I get that error.

I guess as long as I bring my current balance to $0.00 I should be good and avoid interest since there is no other way? I'm use to paying statement balance regardless if it makes a negative balance or not. In this case it would create one and I guess Target doesn't want that.

Right.

Don't get hung up on "statement balance." If the balance is $0.00, then you owe $0.00. When it's time to calculate interest it will be xx% times $0.00 = $0.00.

If your current balance is MORE than the statement balance,  then you should only have to pay the statement balance to avoid interest, not the charges you've made since the statement cut. But if you pay the current balance to zero,  then there's nothing left to worry about.

It appears you got a refund for something returned that exceeded your statement balance due. And that covered it with a bit left over. Did you return an item?

OP,  you're still carrying a balance (new charges after statement cut?), but it just happens to be less than what the statement balance was?

It would seem like the issuer is treating the credit as a payment. I would call them just to verify.

If I understood correctly, there will be no interest. Anyway, to bypass this payment method that prevents you to pay extra, you may go to your other bank account like Chase and use the bill pay service and pay whatever you want to your REDcard. It gets deposited in your REDcard after ~2-3 days and your CC balance can be even negative.

I do this payment method to bypass Plaid, which is used as a payment method in some CC like Citi.
