Strange situation occurred last week but wanted to post here to see what other folks thought or if this is common place-
ive had my target redcard for 3 years. Absolutely no issues. I pay in full each month (usually around Christmas till carry a small balance for two months) but besides that I always pay the statement banalce orherwise the 5% is not worth the high interest yada yada.
on 9/3 made a payment for the full statement balance. On 9/16 and the card declined. Very embarrassing but instead used my chase card but no 5%. I was pretty mad but figured maybe someone stole my card or there's a fraud issue etc.
Mind you the credit limit on the card is rather skimpy - $1500. go online my account shows available credit at $6 and my balance at $300 Maybe they cut my limit? My credit line is still $1500. My payment of ~$1100 shows posted and it was deducted from my account on 9/5.
Called and the rep was very nonchalant. Said that they put holds on accounts even if the funds clear just to make sure everything is legit. ive never had this happen to have this happen with a credit card before. I've had holds for may be the first payment on a new account but never for an established account from the same checking account and after the finds have cleared and for so long. My issue is not trusting that the card can be used.

Wow, i've never read about this type of thing or experienced anything like this with them.
Try calling back and getting a different csr or a supervisor, something sounds way off or missing from the story, on occasion i call into a card and get a flunky csr and need to call a 2nd time and speak to someone else.
Was your payment of $1100 unusually high for you on this card?

This may be the issue OP - if the payment is considered higher than usual or out of pattern holds may be placed. Not familiar with Target red but it happened to me with Truist.
I have had my RedCard (now a MC) for several years and this has also happened to me, with the same bank info that has been on file with them the entire time, but I had made 2 payments within 10 days each time the hold was in place so they may have little things that trigger a hold from time to time or in certain instances.
I would advise to always check your credit card accounts before use either by calling the number on the back or using a app or website. It may take a few minutes of extra time to do this but it is what I do and it does work well for me....because most cards have their quirks from time to time. Sorry I do not have a better suggestion.
I hope you have no more holds *fingers crossed*
Please keep us posted OP.
A little bit off topic, but I know that TD Bank is a little quirky with the number of payments within a certain timeframe. I think TD won't allow more than two/three payments via online. I couldn't figure out what was happening with a multiple payment. I was told by the CSR that they limit the number payments made online. I was allowed however to have them pull it over the phone.

3?!? Wow, it's a good think Cap 1 hasn't followed that playbook or I'd have been screwed repeatedly.

It must be more than 2 payments online per statement because i've made 2 many times with no issue.
they also offer a debit card now, idk if they did when you got your red card. Would be a solution to making sure you can never go without your 5%.
it just connects to your checking and debits from there in 1-3 days after purchases. I imagine your "limit" is some percentage of whatever they notice is in your checking.
same 5% discount.
There's also a $40 SUB coupon on $40 purchase at Target with no spending requirement as well. Although I don't know if current credit red card holders are elgilble.
For people who are "only shop target when they just happen to have the best price" the debit card is a great alternative imo
RedCard $40 offer: Get a coupon for $40 off a qualifying purchase over $40 when you are approved for a debit or credit RedCard in-stores and at Target.com between 09/18/22 - 10/08/22. The coupon will be mailed to approved cardholders with their RedCard and will be valid through 11/07/22.

Okay so I know that I cannot make more than one online payment per day.
