I could use a hand here related to my work. Could someone explain in detail target red cards? These are prepaid credit cards that need to be loaded before use? Or are they revolvers? Do they link to bank accounts? These are run by amex or do they work on amex network and accounts are managed by target?
Target has 3 redcards. One is a debit card and when you make a purchase, it comes out of your checking account. The second red card is a store credit card...it's a revolving account. The third is a Mastercard, which is no longer offered.
Both the credit and the debit card give you 5% off each purchase, free shipping from target.com and you get a longer time to return your purchases.

+1
I will add that there is actually 4 - the 4th is referred to as an Amex Target Redbird card, and it is a prepaid card (reloadable I believe).. I believe you can only purchase these in certain Target stores, and I don't think they're available online (or if they're even still available at all - not sure).

So the store card is that managed by a bank or does target manage the whole account?
The store card is managed by TD Bank (I think - at least they're the one who issue the card).

I believe it is still available, but as it can no longer be loaded by anything except cash, it has lost a lot of its attraction!
Personally I used the debit card, attached to a minor bank account. You get the 5%, free shipping, extended return, without a credit hit, and, for most people, the Target creidit card lines are pretty small
^^^ +1 on the target DEBIT card for the same exact reasons above. sometimes they even throw in free $5-$15 GCs on top of the already discounted items.
I have both....the debit card and the store credit card. I got the debit card first and then about 6 years later got the credit card.
