The Best Buy Siren Song...

So DH and I have to move. We just have to...the condo we live at is so tiny we keep bumping into each other everywhere. We found a place - it's great! It doesn't have a washer, dryer OR a fridge.

So, in my quest to figure out what to do about hte missing appliances I applied to a Best Buy card. Got denied for the Store Card but approved for the MasterCard. Then... SW came up with a hard inquiry and I decided if I was going to get the hit, I might as well get the credit. In this age of shrinking credit limits, it can't be a bad thing.

I couldn't resume the app online, so I called CSR. They were super helpful and said that in order to get the card and finish the app process they need me to go to a store. The credit offer has already been approved and I am in the sistem with a $300 CL (pitiful I know). Should I go? I mean are there any chances they will stamp my face with a big red DENIED sign once I go there?

Suggestions?

Re: The Best Buy Siren Song...

HSBC is harsh with the verification at times. Usually they just ask the Lexis Nexis questions, this is the first I have heard of them requesting a trip to the store.

If they said you were approved for $300 then you might as well finish up the process. Maybe while in the store, see if they could call to get an increase. The APR is usually high and there are no 0% extended financing deals with the MC like there is with the store card.

Conn's seems to be reasonable with credit if you still need to find financing for appliances and have one near year.

Re: The Best Buy Siren Song...

HEY! Thanks for the reply. Yeah they said I am already approved. And I really wanted the store card to have access to financing, but at the same time why waste a good inquiry. I'll try in a couple of minutes to stop by the store and see what they say...

Sadly, I don't have any conn's near me to try them so I will go forward with this and hope I can get an automatic CLI although from what I read here that is merely impossible.

Washer, dryer, & fridge...hmmm...

You might want to try Home Depot. I have no idea what their score requirements are, but right now they're running a 12 month no payment/no interest dealio on purchases $350 and up - as long as you pay within 12 months you're good to go. You might want to check it out. I just opened an account and got a double oven, microwave, and dishwasher.

Re: The Best Buy Siren Song...

Well just to follow up. I have been declined by Home Depot before, so I didnt really want to go through that twice. I went in the store and they finished the application process. I got a $450 CL - $150 more than what they had originally approved me for. The CSR in the store told me to come back in 6 months and try for a CLI directly in the store.

If you try home depot, do it in the store at the counter.  We were declined and walked in and got a $1500 account.

Re: The Best Buy Siren Song...

There were two reason, delinquincies (in the past) and mainly due to no recent credit transactions.  We went in and talked to the peopl at the desk, they re0filed out an app, and then we talked to the CSR on the phone there at the store.  1500 limit and we only requested 1K.  We only tried because we have seen people with less scores getting 2-3K limits and were confused as to why we got denied.  It seems they were a little leary of us not using credit much for the past 2 years.

I am in the high 500s and low 600s. DO you think I should give Home Depot another shot?
