Re: The Ritz Carlton Rewards CC with 140k points signup bonus!

Before anyone gets happy for a 140k sign up bonus remember to check the points value.

Majority of credit card churners unless they have a very huge love for Hilton for unknown reasons would prefer 1 Starpoint (Starwood) vs 5 Hilton points

1 Starpoint is valued at around 2-3 cents, and 1 Hilton point right now I would value at not even 0.5 cents a piece. Do the math first, then decide.

Re: The Ritz Carlton Rewards CC with 140k points signup bonus!

OP, did you get this signup bonus to work?

Also, Ritz is part of the Marriott family, not Hilton.  Marriott Rewards seem to be a bit more aligned to those who make a lot of stays, but if you were to couple this Ritz deal with a Marriott Premier, you're looking at over 200k Marriott points for the 1 $395 fee.  Plus 1 free Ritz night.  Not a bad deal.  Definitely researching this one a bit more.

Chase Sapphire Preferred $12k | Chase Freedom $7k | Chase United MileagePlus Explorer $15k | Chase Hyatt Visa $11.8k | Chase Amazon Visa $3k | Citi TY Premier $8.5k | Amex SPG $13.5k | Amex HHonors $5k | Discover IT $9k | BofA Cash Rewards $6k | BofA BB Rewards $2.7k | Banana Republic Visa $3k

Never stated Ritz was a part of Hilton, just too lazy to do a comparison directly, Just stating how useless some points are compared to others. I guess it wasn't clear enough, lazy while at work.

Oh  that makes more sense.  Definitely agree that each hotel program has varying values associated with their points.  Everyone should evaluate the ways they plan on using the cards and weigh the pros and cons.

No matter what though, 140k bonus is pretty large given the other offers out there.  The $395 fee is a bit steep, but there are a number of perks that come with it including a $200 travel stipend.

Chase Sapphire Preferred $12k | Chase Freedom $7k | Chase United MileagePlus Explorer $15k | Chase Hyatt Visa $11.8k | Chase Amazon Visa $3k | Citi TY Premier $8.5k | Amex SPG $13.5k | Amex HHonors $5k | Discover IT $9k | BofA Cash Rewards $6k | BofA BB Rewards $2.7k | Banana Republic Visa $3k

Re: The Ritz Carlton Rewards CC with 140k points signup bonus!

Also, be aware that since Ritz Carlton is a part of Marriott - if you already have a Mariott card, the terms and conditions state:

"Chase cardmembers who currently have or have had a Chase credit card in any Rewards Program associated with this offer or have received a similar bonus offer, may not be eligible for a second Chase credit card in the same Rewards Program, or for any bonus offer."

There are reports on other forums of people already holding the Marriott card not being eligible to receive the Ritz bonus points.

That's Nerdwallet's breakdown of the value of Ritz Carlton points. I would say it's pretty abysmal. Also those prices are off season prices so you could get a better redemption in the high season. I checked the Tier 5 in NY and right now it's $1095 a night starting. So 70k points there wouldn't be too terrible. 1.5 cents value.

I would still prefer 25k Starwood points for 50k Ritz Carlton points, but even at 140k and $400 annual fee it's really not a bad deal. Although I suspect most card churners don't frequent Ritz Carlton enough to keep the card when the fee renews.

It's basically 2-4 nights at Ritz depending on Tier preference for $400.

I got approved this morning for a 9k CL and the CSR comfirmed the bonus.

The interesting thing is that per the T&C, it works one way but not the other.

This means that if you have a RC card first and apply for the Marriott card second, you can collect the signup bonuses on both. However if you have the Marriott card first and then apply for the RC afterwards, you are not eligible for the 2nd signup bonus. The order matters in this case.

I think the idea here is that they don't mind if RC patrons (who are probably much fewer in number) to expand into Marriott, but they don't want (the numerous) Marriott guests apping for the RC card simply for extra points.
