Who said that credit card companies can't re open a closed acct?
Well, Express which is WFNB, accepted to reopen the acct, just now, I just called.. Happy because I guess it's going to add some age to my credit file. My average acct age right now is only 3 years. I closed several accts a couple of years ago, for some stupid reasons. This one though, they actually closed it without even telling me because the acct I used to make a payment 2 years ago wasn't working any more. But they reoped it. I'm xcited, HOwever, I don't like the credit liit they gave me. It used to be $1200 2 years ago, they only gave me $300!!! All my credit cards right now have at least $2000 in credit limit! I'm, actually gonna call them back and try to speak with some one else. They told me to check back in a couple of months. This limit is ridiculous.
I wont even be using the card anyway.. I just needed to reopen it so that it'll boost the age and my score.
It was opened April 2008 and closed in august 2010. That will be my second oldest acct opened lol.
But yep, Some credit cards companies will definetly accept to reopen a closed actt!!!
Did they pull a new CR?
Congrats if that's what they did. I would definitely check your reports and see if it's a new account or not.
Starting Score: 648That's awesome, congrats!
It makes me wonder if I should bother to try to do the same with some old accounts that I closed a couple years ago before I knew any better.
Was the account they re-opened still reporting? If it was, then it won't help your AAoA as it was already figured into AAoA.
(FYI...your post got me thinking and then I remembered how they calculate AAoA).
I have had Macys reopen an account for me. They told me it would be a soft inquiry, and won't be a new account. Turns out they did a hard inquiry, but at least they didn't open a new account. I'd rather take the hit for an inq than having a new account open and lower my AAoA
