Thinking about dropping the MR part of my Amex Gold card

Recently, I switched over to using combination of Amex Costco and Chase Freedom for all my purchases to maximize cash back rewards.    I've had my Amex Gold for a long time and it has the cost structure of $85 (AF) + $40 (MR).  I think Amex don't offer this anymore and they simply charge $125 for new Gold accounts with Rewards built in.

Anyway, cancelling it all together is not an option since it is my oldest account and through AU, it lengthens my wife's credit history a lot.   So, I'm thinking about droppping the $40 MR part of the account.  What do you guys think?

You can also downgrade it to Green or probably even Zync if you really want a lower AF.

+1 I would downgrade to the green which basically has all of the same benefits as gold with a 95.00 and gets you the same rewards

See if they have an offer of first year AF waived on green, if so apply, cancel the Gold. The green will automaticly be back dated and the Gold hangs around to help your AAoA for 10 years.
