This message is regarding your Amazon.com Store Card account... [LATE]

Hi,

I made a small purchase to keep my Amazon Store Card active, recieved a small CLI ($900-->$1200), and set up an EFT to pay it off. The EFT failed because they took longer than they typically do to make the transfer and I budgeted poorly. I was hit with a late fee & interest charges that ended up being double the purchase amount ($25 late fee on a $12 purchase), but chalked it up to better judgement next time. I had set up text reminders, but I didn't recieve the 'balance hasn't been paid yet' one at all, and the 'late payment' reminder came a few days after the fee had been assessed. The next due date says 8/10, and I can definitely pay it off in full, late fees and all before then, but not right this moment.

I got an email today:

Should I call now? Should I wait until I can PIF and then call? I've never had a late payment before, will this show up on my credit report? I just got my score up to 709....

I recommend you call them and set up a post-dated payment over the phone. As long as you pay by the due date, it won't impact your credit score.

There could some AA taken against your account though.
AmEx Green NPSL | Amex BCP 16K | Citi Simplicity 10k | Discover IT 9K | Chase Slate 7.5K | Amex Hilton HHonors Surpass 7K | Capital One QuickSilver 6K | Home Depot 5k | Chase Freedom 4.5K | LOC 2.5K

As the saying goes, bad things don't get better over time. I would call right away so they don't think you are running from the problem. Most of the time they can help you out with waiving late fees and verifying nothing bad will happen to you CR. Plus, if you call right away, any AA they were thinking of doing may be stopped.

It's always better to call immediately.

your balance was $25 but now with fees you owe $60ish? call and set up payment, they will probably waive the late fee if you ask... no biggie.

if they won't waive the fee now, pay your min. $25 and then call back and ask for the fee to be reversed for first time.

I did a similar thing last summer - scheduled a large payment, then went on vacation and thought "Why don't I just cancel that in case I need extra $ on my trip?"  Needless to say, I forgot to go back and reschedule another payment and didn't remember it until one day past the due date.  I called them and the rep was very nice - reversed the late fee and I've had no issues whatsoever.  I believe the CL was around $1100 at the time, and it's now up to $6400.  So, no negative consequences, either. Smiley Happy

For the sake of accuracy, I stand corrected (just checked the online statement): I bought a $12.72 item, and now owe $26.94. That's $12.72 for the item, $12.72 in late fees and $1.50 minium interest charge.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'll call them tomorrow after making a deposit at the bank. I'm mostly just nervous, still used to being treated like a kid.

Sorry about the late fee and interests charges, but like everybody said, GE is very good at waiving a late payment, especially if it's your first and only one.

I recommend many people at my store (JCP, which is also backed by GE), whenever they are upset about a late fee and it's been their first one on the account, to call in. The reps are more than happy to waive it if it's only been a few days past the due date!

I felt too sick to push the late fee issue, but they only report 30 days lates, so that's resolved. Smiley Happy

Apparently I have to contact my bank to do future ACHs with that account.

Re: This message is regarding your Amazon.com Store Card account... [LATE]

I have all my accounts with GE setup for ACH for at least the minmum payment just incase i forget. But I also have text, and email alerts telling me when my payments are due, so when something comes to me, i go to that cards website and either keep the min payment checked or change it to PIF that month. takes less than 5 min,
