Well, I started 2011 with a bad credit score and with NO credit cards at all. In September, I started my rebuild and later in 2011 (October and November) I got my first two cards:
Capital One Platinum $1000
Citi Diamond Preferred $1500
2011 Total Revolving Credit Limit: $2500 
2012, the journey continued. By spring, I was in the lower 700s. By Summer, the upper 700s.
Capital One Platinum $1500
Citi Diamond Preferred $2500 (PCed to Forward. Converting in 2/13)
Chase Ink Cash $7000
Amex Plum Card NPSL (I charged about $25,000 on it in July 2012...I hear the unspoken default starter limit is $31,000. Anyone know?)
Cap One Spark Cash $8500
PenFed Plat Rewards $14,000
US Bank Cash + $5000
2012 Total Revolving Credit Limit: $38,500 
.....PLUS my Amex Plum.
I haven't checked my spend ability on the Plum but if you figure the alleged $31,000 limit, my total credit line in 2012 is $69,500. 
So I started 2011 with ZERO and am ending 2012 with almost $70,000. Not bad. hehehe
