Anecdotal experience: with Chase, one time I had them reject a purchase at Staples because it was Google pay... And so they locked the card. I literally spent 3 hours on hold trying to get through to the dept, till finally THEY dropped my call (I was extremely embarrassed having to leave my purchase at the store while I was trying to get ahold of them). And recently, they did not give me my 1 yr 10% point bonus with the CSP, and after "elevating" the concern, I got a form letter saying I didn't have the CSP at my anniversary (I had product changed to CSR the day AFTER the anniversary, and logically could not have done it BEFORE I had had the card a full year, because they don't allow that... I even verified with the rep when I changed that I would get the points. Therefore, yes, I had the card at 1 year where are my points). So now I had to go back, again, and submit a request, AGAIN.

With Amex when there's a points issue, their customer service team usually have the power to help you directly. I have on occasion been given points directly by them to fix issues. Chase shouldn't be forcing me to come back them repeatedly and unable to talk to the decision making people.

Also, with Amex, I have had a very good experience when an item I had purchased broke not long after purchase (glass water bottle, measly $30). They refunded me my full purchase price on my claim without any hoopjumping or further evidence.

Those are the sort of things that add up to determine who you want to keep dealing with.
