I was reviewing my USB AR since my annual fee hit on this month's statement. I was searching for some data points on what if any unique things would trigger the travel credits. I came across this statement.
12 free Gogo Wifi passes per year. Note: This benefit will be discontinued on April 1, 2022. You can continue to enroll until March 31, 2022 and passes will be valid for 12 months from issuance. Source
I also see it's not listed as a benefit anymore on the USB site. What a bummer! I use these every time I fly, are there any cards that have this benefit still?
On a positive note, it seems like the food/resturant travel credit trigger is still in effect, according to USB's site.
I hadn't seen either of these discussed recently on the board, so I hope someone finds it useful.
Cheers
I meant to start a thread about this a while back and it seems I must have forgotten. I think the dining part may have become a permanent addition to the $325 credit. For the first few years the card was a great earner for me and the travel credit and GoGo passes completely covered the AF.
Since the pandemic hit, my options for in-person Apple Pay transactions have been pretty limited and I earn much more on Amex Gold for restaurant and grocery purchases where I do use mobile payments frequently so it's been essentially a wash for me the past 21 months on AR. I will actually have to reconsider renewing again later in 2022 without the passes.
Unfortunately I am not aware of any other cards offering WiFi passes. Amex Business Platinum used to have them but that was discontinued a couple of years ago. Those were nice because the coding on the AR passes didn't seem to work on Virgin Atlantic but the Amex ones for GoGo did.
Delta is starting to move toward ViaSat lately anyway, so perhaps the usefulness of the passes would have been limited for me going forward anyway. The good news is that the passes are not automatically issued at renewal and are good for 12 months, so I will wait until my next flight early in 2022 before adding the ones for my recent renewal to my GoGo account.
Yes dining credit is permanent. Big disappointment for me is that dining only gets 1x back, which is disappointing on a travel card. Losing the wifi passes is also a bummer. Value is still there for me but will have to re-evalaute after year 2.
I agree with your statements, mobile pay has been down for me the past couple of years also. I've also been flying Delta more, so it's probably not such a big deal.
Oh well, was planning to spp for the card so time after april when some accounts age past a year, and plan on taking a trip in august so the free wi-fibwould have been nice. Still plan on going for the card, i usecapple pay enough to make the card worth it after the $325 travel credit,
I've had the card for almost 4 yrs now and I think I've used the wifi passes once or twice, and it's been a while since. It really isn't a big loss, IMO.
Based on my flying, United & American don't have gogo, and JetBlue offers free wifi, so the benefit is pretty much useless.
All 3 major airlines, with the exception of AA, offer free messaging on airplanes too. That helps if you need or want to communicate with others in the air.

The UBS (Swiss investment Bank as opposed to USB as US Bank) Visa Infinite card still lists 12 annual GoGo passes as a benefit.
The City National Bank Crystal Visa Infinite still offers 12 annual GoGo passes as a benefit.
If you fly American, the Barclays Aviator SILVER card offers $50 annual credit on WiFi purchases. The Aviator Red credits $25 annually.

Which works out to 1.5% when used for RTR of course
I saw the removal of the GoGo passes also, that was a nice perk. I did use them when I flew, although I must admit the disruption of opening and closing my laptop to deal with the food and beverage services, and other interruptions on a flight, makes me revert to just reading or watching movies during a little down time on the plane.

I haven't had a decrease in mobile payments fortunately. I've been able to use it at my dentist (some expensive gum work) and car servicing/repair where I don't have a competing card. Plus when in the UK, it can be used practically everywhere....
I was thinking of applying for this card on thebasis of $325 dining credit almost covers the AF and mobile wallet will get me close enough.
How does the dining credit work? for example if DW and i go out for a meal and charge put on the card - does the charge come off and then get instantly credited back on? until it gets to $325? - Or is credited monthly / yearly etc?
Thanks!
