Ok thanks. I don't want to waste a HP unless it's an approval. I just disputed some late payments from student loans from cfpb. Hopefully I can get my score up a bit more and go from there.
Thanks.

good call. my .02 is to always have the reports as clean as possible along with nill utilization reporting. there are always data points of this or that but the best data point is stacking the odds in ones favor. if a person has recent flaws deep history in reports can really be a plus. scores are nice and all and provide a window but then income and history come into play. do you already have amex or chase cards? amex is really a great company to build up with. I was always a big fan of cap1 but amex along with nfcu are tip top in my book. the 3 hp thing with cap1 is just stupid, I will keep mine but will not shed a tear if it gets closed
I have two Capital one (Venture 20K SL opened 8/17 and Quiksilver 1K opened 7/15) and three Chase cards (SW Premier 7K SL opened 7/16, Freedom 12K SL opened 12/16, and a CSR 13K SL opened 3/17). I also have a Discover with a 2900 limit (Opened 12/16 with $1500 SL), and a Penfed rewards (Opened 8/17 with 10K SL).
No Amex cards but I do have some preapprovals with them.

interesting spread, you travel a bit and want pts or what is your purpose in getting cards? collecting makes zero sense to me, purpose makes a lot of sense to me. your limits are all mid-level or worse, I think the way to get less cards and bigger limits is to fix negs and derogs and to garden and lets ones profile recover a bit. I cannot see ever owning a discover or cap1 if you can get quality like chase or penfed imo. the usba is fine and all but you are either not going to bag it or it will be yet again another low limit and will hold you back from greatness which you can obviously achieve in time. amex, chase, penfed, nfcu, us bank = quality. the others not so much. imo.
The first Cap 1 was to start rebuilding credit and after that the Sign up bonuses interested me so I started to chase those. At this point the Cap 1 Quicksilver and the Disco hold almost no value to me. I am through my first year with them and got the 5% cash back which doubled year one. Ended up getting about $150 cash out of the deal but nothing to write home about.
As for the rest I got a CSP and a CRS within 3 ish months of each other and grabbed 150K in UR points which is killer to me. The Southwest had a 50K SUB which I used to the full extent. I work in the travel industry so I know how to grab low points on SW and ended up getting 8 roundtrip tickets from the bonus and minimum spend.
I'm working on the derogs currently with some sucess and hopefully the others will follow.
I think I'm going to start another post but why would you recommend AMEX? I looked at the Platinum card with them and I can't justify the $550 AF as the $200 in Uber credit holds no value. I personally don't see any card that is better than the CSR. If I garden another 6 months or so I'll be under 5/24 and can grab the CIP.
Thanks again.

@much more clear now. well done. I use the fu, csr and cip, that is really my entire lineup so you are preaching to the choir - I use the freedom when it makes sense. my everyday is a placeholder, the nfcu, penfed, IHG, cap1 etc. are in a safe. for you the amex bgr @ 75K would be good as there is no af the first year and its a decent yield. for me the best card I have is the cip because i found a way to get 450k a year via shipping via a friends business. hopefully you can angle something along the same lines. the ink cash through a biz mgr is 50K. you can maybe still add an au off your csp and get 5k. the other + to the cip is 100k of referrals per year. you have to enable everyone you know lol, sell them on the cell insurance part. the plat is not bad if you pay for air and hotel a bit, 5x on air and hotel does not suck. i just got a plat au from a friend and i will use it for centurion, eurostar and that is about it, as you said not worth it. I can see why you want to usba, just clear off your file as much as you can and hopefully you can get a decent sl
450K UR a year on the CIP is insane! Nice work figuring that out with your buddy. I've been pushing the CSR at work lately and I get 10K UR for the referrals so I should be getting some new points sooner than later.
What score do you think I need to be at to get a decent SL with US Bank....750? Of course the higher the better but being realistic it will take me a bit to get to 800. Not out of reach but need to age my file a little and show some good habits over time.
Lastly, do you think I should be closing any of my cards and instead of starting new trade lines wait till my score rises and do a HP with Chase to see if they will move my credit line? In all honesty I never come close to maxing out any cards. I always stay under 30% of the limits and I PIF so interest rate doesn't matter to me a bit. I know Penfed is known to give some high limits. I started with them in 8/2017 with a 10K limit. My last score with them was 687 and now that I got the collection off the account my FICO 9 on EQ is 751. I will still wait to get the other negative items off my report, but I wouldn't be too suprised if they gave me a CLI.
I understand Penfed and Chase are HP so not moving on anything yet until I clean up my report a little.
Thanks again.

the way you think about all this is very much the way I do, interesting. I think 720-780 is the range but depends on lots of other factors. usb is history crazy like penfed. I would think you could get a cli most anytime you want post one year with with penfed but who cares. lets go back to your negs/derogs because that is key. just going to come out and ask, do you have any liens or judgements? those will generally cap you at ~750. my guess is you don't, you don't seem like the type so exactly what do you have or do you have a handle on getting rid of everything? the only thing I have come across that cannot be fixed is lates with mbfs, even pra can be dealt with if you get to the right person. I dont care for mbz auto anyway but after dealing with mbfs with a friend I would never own one. ever. awful and i mean super ultra awful company. re the shipping, get this - the guy does not even care. that is how much $ he has. he has millions of points with amex, its flat out insane. he buys air tickets for friends, really amazing person. focus on getting everything cleaned up, you will be surprised how big a jump a single item can make. and you do have a loan in place, yes?
No judgments or collections anymore. The three things left on my report are a foreclosure on a property I had out of state that I purchased in 2009. The first late payment was early 2012 so it's coming up on the time that it should start turning around. It was with Wells Fargo and I haven't disputed/wrote GW letters or anything.
I have 5 late payments from Capital One auto finance starting in 2013 and the last one is early 2015. I haven't done anything with these yet either but I will after I hear back from the CFPB on the student loan late payments.
Lastly I have multiple late payments on student loans starting April of 2012 (11 each over 4 loans). They are currently in dispute as I have a forebearance that wasn't reported properly.
I had some medical issues in the family that lead to the defaults so I might stand a chance with GW letters for some, but worst case I'll just dispute what I can and garden until the rest gets removed.
Thanks again.

gosh, i think you have done very well with where you are considering what you have listed. med issues on gw letters is a good angle and cap1 if you write directly to the eo should be easy to get off - Richard D. Fairbank is the guy you want, email is easy to get. the eo will hand it off to a young snappy individual that will work the problem with you. what do your 3b report right now at 1-2% on a single card?
