Hello! Long time viewer of the forums, first time post.
I applied for my US Bank secured back in April of last year and was told by the banker that after 12 months it has a chance to become unsecured. I called to have it unsecured and they told me they would send it to underwritting to be reviewed. I never heard back from them. But on May 12th a banker called me from my local branch to congradulate me on having the card for a year. I asked her if I could come in and unsecure it with her and she told me sure. But when I got there she had me pick another card and told me that I could not unsecure my current card beacuse it does not work that way. And if I want my deposit back, I will need to pay off the card and close it.
Is this true? Or should I call back and speak with someone in the credit department?
I would definitely call back, I would not close that card until I have something to replace it. I'm not really familiar with US Bank and their practice of secured cards, sorry. But I would explore every avenue before I continued. Have your scores or reports increased so that you would be elligible for an unsecured card?
Thank you for you reply! I will call in the morning then. My scores have imporved a bit, they are in the mid 600s now but US Bank won't give me an unsecured card.
Keep gardening what you have, and keep trying to clean your report. There are other cards that grow pretty well, DiscoverIT is an excellent card that can grow fast. It may take a little time, but keep at it. Best of luck to you.
