okay, i was wrong on the age front. my g/f has the amex black offer...she is 24. haha.
New, but related, question: Has anyone received any great offers or promos after obtaining either the USAA MC or Amex?
I have to admit the awards program is a little lame. However, I was wondering if special promos frequntly come out (e.g. bonus points for certain categories, great BT offers, etc.)? I use to get one once-in-awhile, but overtime I stopped using my MC so they stopped.

Not sure, they seem to change it all frequently. IIRC most everybody that gets one card and applies for the other got it as well with the same CL. I applied for both within minutes of each other and got 20K on each. I never received any offers for them.
Stuck in a student status? Ask a CSR?
They offered me an AmEx two and a half years ago, and I've never been military. I'm a full member, as is Pj1369, due to our being dependents of active duty or former active duty members.
Full member = Military member

... or anybody who derives their membership based upon a relationship with a military member.

I think with the Total Rewards package one's cash rebate comes to something like 1.25%. Considering there are no limits or other gimmicks, it's not too shabby.
Since I've had my card I have been offered a reverse ratejack from a permanent variable 9.9% to 7.7%, which I accepted. I've been offered a 0% balance transfer option with a $75 cap on fees, which I'll never use.
Then they continually pre-approve me for personal loans, home equity lines of credit and new car loans. Since USAA doesn't object to you shipping your car to your overseas duty assignment, I may use the auto loan, buy a car, ship it over here and after a year or two sell it here for 75% more than I paid for it.
