USAA questions...

Hi, I know this doesn't really fit under the "Credit Cards" thread, but I didn't know where else to put it.

I had heard about USAA on this forum, and I heard it was awesome so I told my Dad to join (retired Army, long time ago), and then I joined online also.

I signed up for checking/savings, and then I called to get an auto insurance quote.  She said my dad would have to make his account "active" in order for me to get a quote, I guess meaning he would have to have an insurance product.

Then she was asking me how we heard about USAA bank, I said I heard about it through online forums, etc.  And I kind of felt like she was quizzing me, like maybe I shouldn't have joined?

I was under the impression it was OK for me to join since my Dad joined an he is retired military..is that correct?

Re: USAA questions...

Absolutely, it was fine for you to join! They wouldn't have allowed you to if it weren't!

FTR, when a CSR asks you how you heard about them, they're asking for marketing reasons -- just making sure WHERE their marketing dollars are best spent.

F'r example, if you tell them that you heard about their great customer service (or product) via a friend, they'll more than likely begin offering current clients/members discounts, rebates, incentives, etc, to refer MORE friends.

If you tell them you heard about them at a particular forum, if that site is dropped often enough by new clients, they'll more than likely step up the advertising with that site.

If you tell them you saw their ad in the yellow pages, you can be sure that next publish, they'll have a BIGGER ad.

It's all marketing!

Anywho, we've belonged to USAA for the past 13 years -- you'll LOVE it. They're the BEST!! And yep, if the result is that they'll offer even better discounts (though I don't know HOW they could), you can tell'em I said that!! Smiley Wink

Re: USAA questions...

Tell your dad he should get a quote for insurance and you should too.  My girlfriend is an insurance agent that writes many companies and she can't beat USAA's rates.  The closest she was able to get was about $400 difference a year.

I don't know about their banking personally, but I've heard good things.

Re: USAA questions...

Thanks for all the replies!  I feel better now.  I'll see if my Dad wants to get an insurance quote from them...that would be great if it could save us all money.

Thanks again!

Re: USAA questions...

Do yourself and your father a favor get USAA products ... I used to work for them... USAA rocks ... awesome company ... that was the best thing I ever got out of working anywhere was the ability to have USAA products!

Their insurance is awesome ... you cannot base anything off of just premiums (which is pretty darn low) but by their claims paying ability and their unmatched customer service!

I worked there for quite awhile and so have two of my family members!  Trust me that company knows what they are doing!  Do a little research on USAA and you will wish you could join!

Ask anyone that has USAA you will hear gratitude and loyalty about 99.9% of the time!  The other .1% will whine about anything anyway! lol ...

j/k great company you will enjoy them!

great website also!  www.usaa.com
