Re: Unnecessary card

I guess I just can't see how taking out your phone, unlocking it, picking the card you want to use, etc is any quicker than taking out your wallet and using a contactless card. For inserting, yes, the chip takes several seconds, but phone vs tap to pay...seems about the same in terms of speed and ease. Maybe I just haven't given it a chance. Beyond that, it seems many stores are not great about contactless still and you end up having to insert the card. So if you have to carry the cards for backup anyway, it seems to make mobile pay less enticing, at least for me.

And I must have been really out of the loop or something because I've never carried my wallet in my back pocket nor did I think that was where it "should" go! It's always be in my front and if it's too bulky for that I start taking things out or I end up getting a different wallet (I've been through a few).

Re: Unnecessary card

I'm a minimalist and also very particular about my wallet. Highly recommended: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01HH32JV0

I keep my drivers license, two credit cards, and two $20 bills.

Hey, Guys.

I was wondering how many of you carry in your  physical wallets credit cards which are very seldom used, just for the heck of it?

I usually carry and use  only Citi DC and AMEX BCP. I also have Chase Feedom, but rarely use it, because the categories really don't do much for me.

I was thinking of carrying it (as opposed to leaving it in SD) just to have a Visa to go with AMEX and Mastercard. Converting it to Freedom Plus is useless to me, since I have Citi DC for 2%.

I really only want major bank cards in my daily wallet carry.

I have the above three major cards, plus Target Redcard (which stays in SD for now, I use it for online ordering. If it gets upgraded to Target MC I would carry it).

Any thoughts?

Personally, I carry my 4 most often used cards in a very small wallet. I keep the other 18-19 much less often used cards in a larger wallet. I do substitute cards occasionally for rotating categories or travel.

They all get some form of use even if just minimal to keep active.

It may not be quicker always but, depending where you are, you can get away with carrying a lot less, especially with Samsung Pay.  I have the "big bonus" cards loaded on my phone, and just carry a 2% (now 3%) card as backup.   Almost everywhere I go, with the exception of some doctor and vet offices, take mobile, allowing me to use Altitude or a 5%+

It's actually not that difficult. Tap the power button twice on an iPhone and your default card is ready to go once you use your biometrics. It would take me longer to dig my card out of my wallet than to get my phone ready.

And yeah I have never liked the wallet in the back pocket. I don't understand how people can do that. Why would you want to sit on your wallet? I've tried putting my wallet back there and it's not even remotely comfortable and that was before I started carrying 20+ cards in it. 🤷‍♂️

Re: Unnecessary card

Even as a female I'm a sweatpants and side pockets traveler and worked very hard to land in a career where that would be my daily attire.  😂

I carry my Discover with the higher limit, Target RedCard, NFCU cash rewards for places that don't take Discover (currently have CBM until December), and my debit card.

Desired BK recovery line up complete 7/12/2021. Planning to garden until 8/2023 and potentially try for AMEX.
