Im thinking about upgrading my Amex Green to prg since I would get more points per purchase as im trying to use the charge card more instead of revolvers as it forces me not to carry any balances. Any one knows if it would be Hp if approved for the upgrade? If so i don't want it. I just can't understand why they just can't pc the card instead of having to apply for upgrade. this is very strange seeing i would keep the history and the same card number. Any advice taken. Thanks Taxi.
Any reason not to just app for the 50k MR points offer?
Do you see an offer to PC the Green to PRG for 50k MR points?

No i did not see that offer to pc it. I see if i app for it. just wanted to get more points from my current usage not sure i wanted to app even for 50k but that is a nice offer. If it is hp to upgrade then i would just app for that instead of doing pc. Im not sure however if hp to upgrade or pc a card.
It shouldn't be a HP. I started with a Green card, upgraded to Platinum, downgraded to PRG and now back at Green (don't use it enough to justify the AF). lol Never had a HP for any of them.
The only reference point I can provide is I apped for the Delta Platinum card while having the Delta Gold card. This was a separate application, and I ended up with two cards, HP on the Delta Platinum app, and whatever the bonus offering was for the Delta Platinum. I do see offers in the American Express website to upgrade my Hilton card to Surpass, and that looks like it keeps the same account, then provides additional Hilton points.
If you are looking to score MR points, there's no better way than to use the In Private browsing to find that offer and get the PRG 50k points. Until you find the offer (it may take some time to find it) you would be better off waiting and continuing to use the Green.
If you are on the American Express site and you look at the PRG, and they offer to upgrade you to the PRG with a bonus points amount, it should say there that they will keep the same account number (presuming it is even offered) and my guess is those types of upgrades would be no HP. But I have no direct experience to verify that.
Checking today, logged in to my American Express account, if I look for the Delta Platinum card, it has an application offer for 5,000 MQM plus 35,000 Delta miles, for $1k spend, and is a new card number, would be a HP. I find this a little surprising because I did app for the Delta Platinum just over a year ago, and got a bonus, then closed it within a few months, but ok.
When I check the Delta Reserve card, the offer is NO miles, but "your card number will stay the same" and it is termed an Upgrade. With the $450 annual fee immediately due I'm sure. I don't see any miles offer with that. such a deal.
IDK, if it were me, I'd look for the 50k PRG offer.

Did you get a spend bonus on any of those PC moves?
Could be; HP, no points.
It may keep the same account, so account age may be the only benefit.
Does it say whether the PRG AF is waived the first year? Don't assume it is waived unless it say so explicitly, and I'm guessing not waived if same account.
Anyone who properly uses private (cookies & cache cleared) mode in any browser will see the offer:
Whether to app anew or PC would depend on the following:
1. If offered to upgrade (there's never a HP with an upgrade) with 50K bonus points.
2. Upgrade with no bonus - if price of HP & new TL is =/< $1,000, then apply for a new App for the bonus.
3. If price of HP & TL is =/> $1,000, then upgrade with sans HP and bonus.
For this offer, unless there is a compelling reason to avoid the HP & new TL, applying new is overwhelmingly the better choice, especially considering PC'ing into the PRG will disqualify the cardmember from all future PRG bonuses.
All things being equal, unless offered a bonus, never PC Amex cards.
