Upgrade Life Rewards Visa

When I use the card by the end of the statement time I would be charge interest on my balance. Why? It's payed off every 30 days. Upgrade CSR's told me that every credit card would do that not true.

It's not trailing Interest I'm paying in full every 30 day statement period.

Upgrade does not have a grace period like other cards.

It's an Upgrade card. They're only KIND OF credit cards. They're halfway personal-lines-of-credit.

It's a known thing that they start charging right away, with no 30 day grace period that a real credit card would have. A handful of people have had a different experience and not been charged, but they are not the norm. The norm is that Upgrade has no grace period.

Credit Karma really does people a disservice by not making this "halfway" status clear when they're recommending them as credit cards.

Re: Upgrade Life Rewards Visa

I have the Upgrade OneCard, and if you don't have "pay now" turned on, it'll start charging interest right away. (Basically you auto pay the day after charges post) The Life Rewards is a little different according to their website:

"After your first statement period, interest will generally accrue daily from the day a transaction occurs. With EarlyPay, you can choose to pay off your statement balance in full two (2) days after your statement period ends, so that you'll pay no interest on transactions for your next statement period."

It actually lets you carry the balance a little longer, but still not a full grace period most credit cards have.

Re: Upgrade Life Rewards Visa

I've never paid a drop of interest to upgrade.  I bought my son's bedroom set recently using my 2.2% upgrade card (since I don't have a 5% furniture card, and I already spend my allotted $1500/mo elsewhere using my 3% AOD).  Figured, why not get 2.2% (upgrade) instead of 2% (citi DC)?

(the $10.45 redemption is rewards from a previous purchase, the 2.2% from the Jerome's purchase ($42) will end up being credits for future purchases).

Re: Upgrade Life Rewards Visa

There seem to be haters out commenting on this card around this forum and elsewhere who have never owned it. He may have an oddly shaped head and surprisingly frugal Subway habits, but I have no reason to distrust @ptatohed.

My assessment is that this card is comparable to some of the best credit cards available, Citi Custom Cash and USB Cash+. Although, I do grant, a normal 5% card would earn $5 back on $100 in category spend, moreover, the $100 sitting in a 5% apr account would earn $0.33 during the grace period. This upgrade card would be $4.75 vs $5.33. This is 89% of what CCC or Cash+ earns, so 11% less and not insignificant.

However, this card outperforms other ways. The spend limit is double of CCC and 50% more than Cash+ which is a big deal. The categories are different and substantial, now this could be a tie or win based on whoever's spending we're talking about. Personally, I'm not considering closing CCC or Cash+ but adding this card which would broaden my 5% cb categories. Lastly,  I always prefer quarterly over monthly spend limits because it allows for less micromanaging and fewer accidental 1% charges. There's also no way to maximize cashback purchases larger than $500 on CCC. I'm sure whoever spends significant sums at the vet would really appreciate this card. All in all, it seems to be a very good card for the right person.

Well said @GatorCowboyLion .  Especially my oddly shaped head.  Smiley Wink  I have no issues with upgrade.  And their amazing savings account only makes it that much better.  What I think is way too underrated around here is their MyFive card.

https://www.upgrade.com/upgrade-card/my-five/

It can essentially double as another citi CC but, like you said, $1500/qtr, not $500/mo, so even better.

My only complaint with upgrade is the CB earned has to be taken as statement credit.  Which would normally be fine except that you earn your CB when paying, not spending.  Thus my 2.2% card is really a 2.15% card and the aforementioned MyFive would really be a 4.75% card.
