What is the catch for this card and or other upgrade cards? Some say it's a personal loan and you pay interest as soon as you use it for a purchase. Credit karma got 2 of their cards with a $400 sign up bonus if you open a checking account with them and make 3 purchases. Honestly that's all I would do if I got the card for the bonus and keep it for a while. Any downsides to these upgrade cards or the bank itself?

I have no issues with my upgrade card. I have EarlyPay turned on and have never paid interest. Also, one of the easiest $400 bonuses out there.
Thanks everyone for the Upgrade info!
I was thinking about getting one to try to help my credit mix; do you think that might help me a bit? Just increase my balance to positive shortly before I apply for new cards? Not sure.
Maybe this is a better question for the credit report subforums, not sure.
For context, my credit is pretty good and I apply for maybe 3-6 cards per year. I don't have any loans outstanding though, so I think that hurts my score a bit due to mix. But I'm not sure whether issuers actually care about mix or about score beyond a certain point. For me, it's usually velocity that's the limiting factor.
