Re: Using cards for rewards but keeping utilization down

I put everything on a credit card for the cash, points, whatever. Each month I put $12,000 - $15,000 on credit cards personally and for my business. However, I have alerts set up in phone to remind me when to pay off. So my utilization never rises above 5%. I never want a balance, or much of one to hit a statement. So, once you know the day your statement is created, just make sure you've made your payment before they create a statement. Now you get the perks, and keep your credit high or climbing. The rewards don't often make sense if you keep a balance anyway and pay interest, or hurt your credit score. Early on I would sometimes put $10,000 on a card with a $4,000 cl in a month. The statement would show zero or a hundred bucks though. I would make payments weekly, or even multiple times a week.

I treat my credit cards like they are debit cards. If the money isn't in the bank, I don't use them. But I love to use them for the free stuff and a layer of financial protection.

I haven't done a final count yet for 2020. But I know between mileage, hotel, and cash I received over $10,000 in value.

good luck
