For every report of someone actually using the benefits, there seem to be at least 50 instances of someone asking how to get the "upgrade" or excitedly reporting success at getting it. That suggests those benefits don't get much use.
I can understand wanting it on a card where it might realistically be useful. But in some cases it seems ridiculous. Someone would have to be pretty desperate to make a major purchase or book luxury travel with a BP Visa.
Right, it matters not for me either at the end of the day. Sure, the perks are available but I have yet to be stopped at a restaurant, hotel or grocery store where any of my cards are handed out and a clerk/associate or someone would say "OMG... Shut the front door! Is that a Visa Signature?!?" or, "I absolutely loooooved the silver balls on your Citi MC...wink wink, can I see them again?"
And, yes I have used the WEMC and VS benefits for the cards that provide some of decent ones but I don't necessarily get disappointed if my next card is not VS/WEMC - for instance, NASA has some decent rewards and a $30K CL but it's not VS and works/is just fine by me
+1
So true, I've gotten MORE comments of the 'slick' QS1 (among the lowest of my CL) but THAT card has more clerks go 'wow...sweet'
Followed by my Discover card but that has more to do with ME and LOCATION than the card itself, even though it's sweet (lol)
?
1) I'm in SoCal...so off the bat the Blackhawks card throws 'em (calm down locals I don't 'hate' the Ducks or Kings...now if I lived in ..well wouldn't anyway but
IF it were Vancouver 'then' we'd have problems ....I 'like' the local teams but LOVE where I'm from...as long as the Hawks are out I'm good with either squad)
2) I don't quite fit the typical 'demo' of 'whom' clerks would THINK would slide over a 'hockey' team card but hey I don't give a crap, the only team higher on my food
chain would be the Sox (the White ones of course)...sometimes what gets in 'ya young stays with you forever no matter what the world around 'tells' you what you're supposed to love.
Tell the truth even though you moved on IF that old 'flame' from Jr. High etc. was on TV or whatever you're gonna watch cause what's gets in young gets in deep.
Go Hawks

I've only heard of a very small handful of people actually using the benefits. Over time, it also seems WMC/VS has become far less exclusive.
There's also been reports that Citi issuing the Double Cash as WEMC was kind of a "mistake"...as in, when people go to use the WEMC benefits they discover they can't. My Double Cash says WEMC, but I haven't tried to use any of the benefits, so I have no clue if it's a "real one" or not. But I really don't care either way. I'm just surprised they'd issue it with a WEMC logo if it's not WEMC.
I have 3 VS and really don't even think about it. I guess you could say its nice to have the benefits should you need them but it doesn't change the way I use the card at all.
Other than the shiny silver aesthetic appeal of say the WEMC logo, what honestly interests me much more in obtaining VS/WMC/WEMC cards is if they also have a corresponding flexible spending / NPSL feature. Mainly because you never know what might happen down the road, such as unexpected major work needed on your car, a big medical expense, etc., where you can (at least temporarily) exceed your CL without penalty, if you need to. Among my cards in that tier, my flexible spending WMC/WEMC/VS are thus the ones that make me the happiest, lol.
