I was pre-qualified for a few of their cards on their website. I check all the time and there's never any offers. So after seeing quite a few pre-qualified cards show up, I figured, what the heck and applied for the Citi Thank You card - Denied...ok....went right back and applied for the Citi Simplicity...denied....(they pulled my Equifax report which has double the inquiries of my Experian report and triple the inquiries of my TU report)
So I figured what do I have to lose...I emailed them asking for a recon without a hard pull or nevermind.
I was SHOCKED by the un-classiness of their email response (I get it...I'm Denied lol)!!

From what I've read Citi is very INQ sensitive
If a bank likes what they see, inquiries are not a problem, they obviously didnt like what they saw and just used inquiries as the excuse.

I don't quite understand.
What are you shocked by...?
The reasoning behind "we hope we were clear in explaning this decision" is because many times some of the denial reasons are phrased in such a way that is extremely confusing for some people. Those denial reasons did not apply to your case, which is why you didn't see them. This is really just a template that they use for every single denial letter.
Most other banks have 1 template letter for all denials as well, and they're all phrased in a similar way. No bank is going to write you a heartfelt handwritten letter explaining your denial.
Just so you know for future Citi apps: Each individual is limited to 1 app per 7 days, 2 apps per 60 days, regardless of outcome. Most people recommend you put in 1 app per 8 days, 2 per 65 days, to be on the safe side. If you put in any additional apps, Citi will still go ahead and pull new inquiries but it is a guaranteed denial....
I guess I wasn't expecting a bank to reply with words such as "Can't and "Don't"
I'm not shocked by the response in whole, I was just surprised, I suppose they caught me off guard.
I'm in no way complaining that I was denied, or for their reasoning. Just sharing the recon denial email.

As in "we can't approve" and "don't reply to this email"?
Not sure how else you could word those statements.
My parents nor sister just CANT get in with Citi or Barclay its been app over app and its still nothing! Oh well they have been forgotten maybe once they have only 1 inquirie reporting since those are the main reasons of denials, altho its funny since Chase, Commenity, AMEX, and Bofa see the same thing yet they do approve my parents and DS. Citi and Barclay are very sensitive banks I guess.
Not expecting anything from them, especially anthing heartfelt. I suppose thier email response was just a slight bit different than their website response which I just checked:

Thank you for applying for the Citi ThankYou® Preferred Card(s).
We sincerely appreciate your interest and after carefully considering your application we are unable to approve your request. You will receive written notification with the reasons for the decision. If you have further questions once you receive the letter, please call us at the number listed.
Nevertheless, it's always informative to see and learn about denials and recons and thanks to myfico I've learned so much more than I would have in everyday life. Very thankful to all those that share their experiences on this website : )

Sometimes denial reasons are as random as throwing darts, how many inquiries do you have? In particular the last 6 months? Citi is sensitive to inq on thin files, especially if you have no history with them. Once you get in, they become much less sensitive to inq.
Too many : ) I just looked (and with the citibank inquiry added) I have a total of 12 listed on my full report (5 are from car dealerhips when I leased my new vehicle in August of 2013) So 9 total in the last 6 months
