The card is extraordinary in its coverage of 3% for health and wellness;
(from Forbes)
'According to Synchrony the following areas qualify as a healthcare or wellness expense: Vet, Ambulance Services, Medical, Dental, Ophthalmic and Hospital Equipment and Supplies, Drugs, Drug Proprietaries, and Druggist Sundries, Sports Apparel, Drug Stores, Bike Shops, Sporting Goods Stores Hearing Aids (Sales, Service and Supply), Prosthetic Orthopedic Goods, Prosthetic Devices, Pet Store, Barber and Beauty Shops, Counseling Services (Debt, Marriage and Personal), Massage Parlors, Health and Beauty Spas, Public Golf Courses, Membership Clubs (Sports, Recreation, Athletic), Country Clubs Private Golf Courses, Doctors and Physicians (Not Elsewhere Classified), Dentists and Orthodontists, Osteopaths, Chiropractors, Optometrists and Ophthalmologists, Opticians, Optical Goods and Eyeglasses, Podiatrists and Chiropodists, Nursing and Personal Care Facilities, Hospitals, Medical and Dental Laboratories and Medical Services and Health Practitioners (Not Elsewhere Classified).'
I'm just DYING to confirm it using at Massage parlors since I use it like once per 1 or 2 months after travels. I spend $60~90 per visit.
And IW tennis tournament ticket coded as Membership lol(not sure Citi CC will give back 5%, for that matter?).
Problem is, how much am I saving instead of just using flat 2% card like Citi DC and Penfed PCR. And not only that.
It's essentially a store card, in terms of redemption. You get to 'erase' as statement credit for purchase at Walgreens. So how is this different from say Synchrony Amazon store card. But to think of it what's so different from travel cards such as BOA TR. Still, cashback not being an option is a huge minus for me since I rarely go to Walgreens, at all lol. Some says it's better than Walmart card, and Costco you can redeem in February every year at Costco? Similar 'hurdles'.
Wonder what's the experience using this card by MyFicoers. And of course, it's from Synchrony..
Some interesting tidbits from Nerdwallet;
Earn $25 Walgreens Cash rewards when you open an account and make your first purchase within 45 days. Exclusions apply.
4. Rewards are in the form of Walgreens Cash
Walgreens Cash doesn’t exactly equal cash back. You can redeem it at checkout in Walgreens or Duane Reade stores, or online, to reduce the total cost of the transaction. In terms of value, $1 of Walgreens Cash would be converted to a $1 discount when redeemed. You can redeem in increments of $1, $2, $3, $4, $5, $10, $20 or $50.
Walgreens Cash expires one year after it is earned, or if your account has been inactive for six months.
And what is with taking videos and ids when applying/approved? I did prequals and they didn't require it, before accepting the MC version(not yet, didn't proceed)
I guess it's not a bad card if you are a regular Walgreens shopper. Looks like the intro reward is now $35 instead of $25. I don't think you mentioned this but 10% back on WG branded products and 5% on all other brands at WG. That's pretty huge for a regular WG shopper. That 3% list for the MC is quite impressive.

I keep getting told I'm preapproved when I checkout. I actually do go to Walgreens fairly regularly (out of convenience mainly), but I still don't want it for many of the reasons you said. Also, Walgreens prices tend to be higher on most items, so that further dilutes the value proposition.

They offered me 8k last year on preappoval, but I didn't do it because I thought the rewards structure was kinda worthless on a 90 dollar massage you would save 90 cents if you can use the credit at walgreens and you dont let the points expire. If you do online ordering at walgreens you likely can get free delivery, and the PPMC will give you 3% which on my typical walgreens trip is pocket change at best in savings vs 2%. AppleCard will also give you 3% which is my typical walgreens card. To me the card is way too specific in rewards redemption and it isn't a big enough bonus over just using another general spend card, without the hoops and expiring points.

Isn't 3% of $90, $2.70?

$.90 is the difference between paying $90 with a 3% card vs. a 2% card.

@ptatohed yes... the question was vs a 2% card
As Aeon explained
I could see this card being benefical if someone has a lot of medical & prescription expenses ; presumably you can use the Walgreens Bucks towards any purchases ( including pharmacy ). Maybe people on a HDHP with potentially a lot of out of pocket expenditures.

IIRC the pharmacy is at a reduced rate or excluded do t quote me on that though... I am willing to bet you could find a better rate on goodrx.com than at Walgreens anyway.
