Re: Wamu Credit Card

Nicki just wait until the bk falls off next yr and reapply with BofA if you want to.

Quizzer the Fico score is not  the same fico that you would get here but instead is a cc enhanced fico.

Re: Wamu Credit Card

When a CCC sends you a solicitation, even if they call it "pre-approved," which is a total oxy-moron, it does not signify grant of a card just because you respond, and thus consent to a hard credit pull, and their further scrutiny.  They offer you the promotional offer through a "soft" PRM credit pull, which does not ding your credit report becasuse you did not approve it, and also does not give them full access to your CR.  Once you then fall for the your "pre-approval," you then grant them in you applic the right to do a full hard pull, -10 or so hit on your credit score, with full access to your CR, and no guarantee of approval.
It is a credit slot machine.   If you walk up to a slot machine in Vegas with a sign that reads "You have beeen pre-approved to play at this machine,"  what would you say?  Impressed?  Dont thinnk so!
"Dah, that means I dont have to put my quarters into this machine in order to play, just like anyone else?"  Now you understand!
The House wins.

Re: Wamu Credit Card

Robert, your points are well taken.

Then again, I maintain that there is a better chance of approval from a preapproved offer than there is from a cold app, all else equal.

BofA, for example, has told some members of our forum who were approved with low limits that they would not have been approved at all had it not been for the fact that they received a preapproved offer.  To some issuers, a preapproval actually does mean something.

Re: Wamu Credit Card

Agreed-
This is the marketing and new customer departments- I fully believe you have a slightly better chance on a pre-appoval offer than a cold app.

They spend $XXXXX dollars on a mailing, TV, and other marketing costs- they want XXX customers out of it.

The numer of junk CC pre-approvals I get has gone way up (called HSBC and told them to remove us from their lists forever) - but prime offers are very limited (Home depot, Discover).
