I think gardening 1 or 2 secured cards (one from a CU) while you get your report's cleaned up is the thing to do. Add a share secure loan from a CU also (if you have no installment loans in good standing). Let it all age! Trust me, I want my credit scores up NOW (like most people here) but i am reminded daily that "credit is a journey, not a race" so some acceptance might help. Time, money and lots of certified mailings is what it takes. Develop a good relationship with your credit union and let them know you are trying to build/rebuild. I ask them questions all the time (local), and take their advise, just to garden that lender to get a good loan for the next phase of my rebuild (in a year). If you are intent on adding HP's for little or no gain then you can google "credit pulls database" for info on who pulls what and the scores of the applicant at the time the app was made (i hope that is'nt a TOS issue here). Is that 600ish score from myFICO? What are the issues on your other reports that are giving you the score in the 400's? By the time you fix your reports, your secured accounts will age enough to allow you some LL prime cards. Good luck with your spree and please keep us posted.
elim, i so much appreciate your advice. As for CU and installment loans, i have checked DCU, SFECU & FCCU (local) credit unions and all require ChexSystems for opening an account. I have a baddie from 2012 on ChexSystems and not until 2016/2017 will that go away. I have written letters disputing with Chex/the CU bank and i m told i should hear from them within a week. (Fingers Crossed).
CreditPull Database has told me already EX is the choice in TX for Bank of America, Amex, FNBO. My EX FICO from myfico.com as of 6/30/2014 is 611. I paid only for EX FICO and believe its the enhanced FICO 08 Score. In applying for walmart card i was denied and the letter showed a score of 424 FICO. (dont know if its 08,04, 98 TU).
So what could be on TU? lets see; TU score 424 (from Walmart). ; Its too thin a file.
1 inquiry on Walmart from May 2014; 1 AT & T service Inquiry from Jan 2014. 2 inquiries from 2013; 2 Trade Lines (KOHLS & Capital Bank); KOHLs with $300 limit; Capital Bank aka OpenSky with $250 limit; OpenSky with 1 year payment history; $0 Balance; KOHLs with 1 month Payment History. 1 $600 Medical Collection account; date of service 9/5/2010.
CreditOne, FirstProgress, First Premier, MerrickBank, Openskycc & FNBO secure (which allows monthly FICO 08 Enhanced) are just the only cc to apply left.
Just like everyone else has said here get rid/delete that medical collection account and all will be better. i take that advice seriously and do believe it will make a difference.
OP, you've been given excellent advice to garden your current cc's until your scores increase. Until you've correctly addressed your baddies, you would be wasting HP's IMO. I would strongly suggest posting in our Rebuilding Forum with a complete description of the derogs on your CR's. When your scores are in the mid 600's you will be in a much better position to achieve the cc's in your wish list.
Credit sesame, credit karma etc are FAKO scores and can be used as a guide but they can be +/- points off. Again, the best place for you to get advice on addressing and removing the reasons for your low scores is in our Rebuilding Forum.
Good luck.

I think all that needs to be said has been said, i want to thank everyone who contributed to my original post here. Very very good advice given.
I have decided to do one final app with FNBO for a secure card and their Platinum Visa Ed card and see if i can get approved. That way i will know exactly the EX FICO score and that will be it. I have just opted in on all Credit Bureaus.

No need to close it down, you will continue to get advice for future cc apps. The advice you get here in conjunction to the advice in Rebuilding will be valuable.
