So, I couldn't help but lament that my application was still in review after 24hours, according the to online application tool. I called AMEX and expected to get the same lame story as I got from Citi PP: declined due to delinquency. The representative informed me that she would process my application manually and asked to place me on hold; I knew it was going to be bad news, but my prayer and faith were for good news. When she returned she began by saying "I have reviewed your application and will need to verify information for security purposes". I just knew that was the beginning of the end. She then asked for my date of birth and the correct spelling of my name.
Her parting words: Congratulations. Your application has been approved. Welcome to the American Express Family!
I couldn't believe it. Somebody has finally given me a chance! I feel so foolish for wanting to cry--and freely admitting that in a public, online forum. I can't believe that of all companies, its AMEX that is willing to give me a chance. I haven't had payment trouble since I 2004, and that was only after trying to establish myself fresh out of college. Unfortunately some accounts feel into arrears. However, I rectified all delinquencies and had a squeaky clean record since. Wells Fargo gave me a chance with a secured card and has since graduated my account. Citi declined me and is still giving me the run around. But I'm proudest of this moment...now a part of the Amex family!
