Wells Fargo Card Nightmare (Propel)

Apparently they don't want people using autopay from another bank. Chase is my main bank. I don't care to sign up for a Wells Fargo checking account just so I can use autopay for my Propel card.

Every time I log in and try to set up autopay I get an error "You do not have at least two eligible accounts to transfer money."  Been going on for 3 days now.

I call WF and the reps just keep transferring me around. I was even hung up on twice. They have no idea what that error message is. Is there anyone here enjoying their services? It's my first time with them and this is not a good start. I have relationships with Amex and several others and never had ridiculous issues like this before.

Do you have a balance on your card? You have to have a balance to set up a payment method.

I don't have WF but it sounds like you have not added the external account yet.

Re: Wells Fargo Card Nightmare (Propel)

I've added several, it won't let me use them yet. I suppose I'll have to wait till the statement post before it will allow me to set up the auto pay.

Looks like BB&T is designed the same way? Can't add a payment account to it yet. I like to set up auto pay as soon as I'm able to login to the CC account.

Re: Wells Fargo Card Nightmare (Propel)

Update, I tried again a few minutes ago. It allowed me to set everything up.
Statement must have cut. It did say if a balance was due in August. I'd have to make a separate payment. The auto pay doesn't start till September.

Re: Wells Fargo Card Nightmare (Propel)

Here's what I would recommend:

1.  Wait until the first statement cuts.  (And no "PIFing" before the statement cuts.)

2.  Manually pay that statement with the external account.

3.  Wait a week.

4.  Try to set up auto pay with that same external account.

Many of the problems reported on this board occur because people try to do too much too soon with new accounts.

Daily Carry: PenFed Power Cash • NFCU Flagship • NFCU More Rewards • Chase Freedom
Sock Drawer: PenFed Promise • NFCU cashRewards • Chase Sapphire Preferred • Chase Freedom Unlimited • United Explorer • UNFCU Azure

I don't believe that wanting to set up a payment account or autopay falls under "too much" or "too soon".  This is just the basics that should be available the moment you're able to create a online profile.  Let's call it for what it really is, Wells Fargo being Wells Fargo.  I find their website to be confusing/lacking at best.  Anyone with a Dillards Store/Amex can tell you just how behind the times Wells Fargo is; entire site looks like it was constructed by a middle school school kid learning HTML coding in 1998.

This is hardly a nightmare. Give it a few more weeks.

Re: Wells Fargo Card Nightmare (Propel)

I just got the Propel too, and I didn't even bother trying to set up an external pay account, but rather just use billpay from my Chase checking (which is always an option to pay any card from any bank).  Definitely interested to see if you get a resolution to this for future reference purposes though, in case I decide I want to pay directly through Wells Fargo for whatever reason.

Re: Wells Fargo Card Nightmare (Propel)

Most banks are going this way in order to detour fraud. It will be much smoother in a few weeks.
