Wells Fargo Home Projects Card

Hello All,

I was in the market of getting a mini ductless AC system installed for my office in Arizona and I found a company that has Wells Fargo Home Projects Card financing available.  Their promotion is 0% APR for 18 months to pay off the loan and the cost of the unit is about $5700 dollars.   I did some searching about this credit card and noticed that is indeed a revolving line of credit and I cannot just borrow the exact amount I needed, but will be borrowing whatever they approve.  Is this true?  if I get an approval for $7,000, that will be on my credit score? Once I pay off the full amount in 18 months, I will never be touching this card again so that won't be an issue.  And I won't be closing it due to the fact it might affect my credit score.

I haven't gotten the approval yet, but I have a 790 credit score for all three bureaus and have about 33% credit utilization.  I don't believe I will have a problem though.

This card seems to be too good to be true, but the fact it is a revolving credit and you cannot request an exact amount, is this card worth doing so?  I do have a savings fund for a rainy day, but would like not to touch it.

Re: Wells Fargo Home Projects Card

I used to have this card.  I got it when installing a central AC unit and the contractor offered this card as a way to finance it for 2 or 3 years with no interest.  I paid it off before the promotion ended, and I did indeed not pay any interest.

I had much worse credit than you at the time, and was approved for not much more than the total amount of the project, so my utilization was near 100% at the beginning.  When I started actually caring about my credit, I called WF and requested a CLI, which they approved and that helped the utilization until I got it paid off.

I never did find another use for the card, as not many contractors in my area had offers for it, so it was eventually closed due to inactivity.

But it was a legit card, and helped me out a ton when it was hot out and my central AC died.  Smiley Happy

It definitely reported to the credit bureaus, and impacted my score if that's what you're asking.

Re: Wells Fargo Home Projects Card

Appreciate the response!  Right now I don't have any "hard" inquiries into my credit so inquiry isn't the issue, I am worried about the high utilization.  I have gotten numerous quotes for the system and average for non summer months here in Arizona is about 4k to 8k just for the installation and system.

The utilization won't take into affect until I use the card, correct?  I know the inquiry will pull a hard status, but wasn't sure the utilization will take into effect right away?  I haven't done a revolving credit type of card.

Re: Wells Fargo Home Projects Card

Good info from @dlister70 .  @d0m0kun , what about any credit card that offers 0% for 18 months (or even higher, like 21 months)?

It just reported as a normal credit card for me.  So the utilization hit after the first statement cut and they were reporting my usage.  So the hard inquiry will show up when you apply for the card, but there will be a delay until the utilization has any impact until the first statement cuts.

And as @ptatohed mentioned, it might be worth just getting a regular credit card that has a good 0% introductory rate but it's also a card that you might benefit from in the future.  My impression of the WF projects card was that it was more for lower credit folks to have an option to do work on their house.  I was certainly in that boat at the time that I got this card, but nowadays, I'd want to get a card that has a nice sign up bonus that I could meet right away with the home improvement expense.

I am noticing that a lot of cards that have 18 months or more of 0% don't have a lot of benefits afterwards.  The WF active cash is only 15 months of 0% but then after you pay it off, you've also got a 2% everything card.  That's the kind of thing I'm thinking of, but in my brief search, could only find 15 month offers on the more useful cards and 18 or 21 months on cards without many perks after the initial purchase.  I was going to mention the WF Reflect because it's 21 months 0% and I'm pretty sure that I got a $200 sign up bonus with that one for a small spend like $500 or $1000, but it doesn't look like they have that bonus offer right now.

Then again, I guess since you're not getting any perks with the projects card beyond 0% financing, you might as well get the Reflect card for 21 months over the project card for 18 months.  Just food for thought.

Re: Wells Fargo Home Projects Card

I do appreciate all the information!  I am thinking about the Chase Freedom Flex card because I am already an existing Chase card member and the 5% rotating bonuses seems like a pretty good valid card to get.  Thank you all!

That will work.  And that's an A+ card to have after your 0% promo period.  But that will only give you 15 months at 0%, not 18 months.  Will that work for you?  Also, you really shouldn't be spending on that card during the 15 months you are paying down the AC unit at 0%.  So, you'll have to wait 15 months to enjoy the 5% cats and maybe miss out on the first year of 10% groceries.

Re: Wells Fargo Home Projects Card

Yeah the 15 months is fine.  It won't be for a central AC, so it should be fine.  I will only be using that card for the mini ductless system and although it will suck to not use it during the 15 months, the 0% is worth it, and the benefits later on.

I've had the WF Home Projects card for over two years from my go-to HVAC company.  Best part of using the card is the 0% deferred interest when PIF offers.  The first time I used it, I paid the balance off with time to spare thus avoiding interest.  When I needed more work done from the HVAC company, the purchase was high enough to qualify for another 0% deferred when PIF offer.  The card also offers fixed payments over time at lower APR.

Re: Wells Fargo Home Projects Card

See if the HVAC contractor will give you a better price if NOT using the financing.
The 0% thing from Wells Fargo costs the contractor an up front fee, which gets rolled into the job quote.

I'm in the HVAC/R buisiness, and find that customers with good credit are almost always better off if they find their own financing instead of using any of the Wells Fargo financing options availabe for us to offer as part of the package.

Back to gardening until Late February 2026.
