What I like about my Chase CC

I've seen way too many bashing's about Chase, so I'm post what I like about them.  For all who care, this is my first real credit card - so maybe I'm viewing Chase thru rose colored glasses.

Currently, I am receiving a 1.1% cash back bonus + 10 points per purchase (regardless of purchase price).  I think this is pretty decent, my cash back bonus is approximately 1.45% average overall.  I looked at a few cards and this seems to be pretty competitive.

Also, many people wonder when their next statement closing date is...not I.  Chase is nice enough to make this a feature of their online account info.  So, I never have to wonder if I can pay down my utilization before the next statement cuts - I like it!

If you open a Chase CC, you will receive an offer in the mail for a free $125 when you open a checking account - not bad!  I figure most people who are interested in earning cash back on their purchases would be wooed by this offer.  You would have to spend $12,500 at 1% just to receive that type of bonus.

And right about now, I'm sure plenty of you are wondering if I am in fact a Chase employee - nope!  Just a kid in his 20s trying to understand how Chase is this evil empire... I have banked with them for 2 years and never had a single issue - interesting isn't it?

Re: What I like about my Chase CC

i agree with you. while chase has taken a lot of adverse actions with customers people should realize it is the economy and chase isnt the only company doing it. i had a chase credit card, ran up a balance and it eventually got too high. chase put me on a payment plan that reduced my interest and monthly payment.

when the account is paid off i will definately apply for another account so that i can have overdraft protection.

Welcome to the forums!

What I like most about my Chase CC is that the account is still open and it has not been CLD'ed - both major miracles. Unfortunately the account has been RJ'ed to the stratosphere "because", which is a very low order concern for me as I don't really carry balances and certainly not at APR's > 6.99%.

Imagine one of the following scenarios happening to you after ten years of what you would consider to be an excellent relationship:

1) You log in one day and find out that your $20K CL is now $5K and you have received no notice, or

2) You have a card with a $5K CL, stop at the local 7-11 to fill up and your card is declined, you go home, call in, and are informed that your card was closed. You were not sent any notice, or

3) You receive notice that your existing 5.99% APR will be 15.99% in six weeks, potentially leaving you with a decision to make regarding opt'ing out, or

4) You receive notice that your existing 5.99% APR will be 12.99% in six weeks and you decide not to opt out so you can retain the open account. Two months later when try to make a minor purchase with the card and find out it has been closed without notice. You might have opt'ed out to preserver the 5.99% APR for an existing balance if only you had known they would do this to you so soon afterwards, or

5) You receive notice that your existing 5.99% APR will be 17.99% in six weeks and you do opt out, closing the account to protect the rate for an existing balance. Nine months later you look at your bill and see the APR is 19.99%. You call in and find out they claim to have sent you another CIT notice on the account you closed, which you missed because it look like just another piece of junk mail. Who changes terms on closed account anyway? You closed the account to preserve your existing terms! Chase says too bad and too late - you are now stuck.

Chase has done all of the things and more to their account holders during calendar year 2009. This is why Chase is held in such low esteem!

I totally agree with the basis of your overvations. I have friends who swear against certain banks that have treated me well just like Chase has been treating you well.

First: I opened that same $125 checking. Took me about 10 online messages to have them pay up before I finally got tired and went in to get an employee to take care of it. Probably was that my automatic deposit was only $0.02 since I was mad at them for closing my VISA without warning or reason. The reply's to my messages appear to be cut and paste according to topic. Nobody answered my question as to when my account would finish the "under review" status. Terms clearly stated "14 days" after initiation of automatic deposit. Ok, I knew it was coming but they could have just said in one email, you aren't sending enough money, or you must come see us as emailing us for this topic is usless, LOL.

Second: I have been checking out their online access and there are features that my US Bank and Bank of America do not have. I have the itch to really make a comparison between all of them and then send them all a letter giving them the opportunity to really have a killer online access. Each could stand to glean off the other. I did notice your statement date thing, my Citibank CC has that same feature and YES it is very nice. Now to one thing they could improve, when I download transaction date to excel for my newly reopened Chase Visa, the date field has been changed from MM/DD/YYYY to "20090917120000[0:GMT]", how the heck am I supposed to import that to my Access accounting database that I made? LOL, "=LEFT(RIGHT(LEFT(B5,8),4),2)&"/"&RIGHT(LEFT(B5,8),2)&"/"&LEFT(B5,4)", but not every sorry soul would have been able to do that. Probably would have ended up having to retype in the dates.

Lastly: my Physics teacher really opened my mind to "odds" when he demonstrated the half life concept for atoms using dice. You can be with a really crappy bank and never get hit with an pathetic poor service issue, and you can also be hit with pathetic poor service over and over from a really good service bank. What gives? Well I do know stuff like temp, and environment can effect the rate of the half life of an atom, and I also feel that there are factors that effect the rate of good or poor service issues for banks. When an employee treets me well, I brand their name and number into my notes for future referral. I don't call unless I'm absolutely certain that I'm right and they are wrong, then I'm curteous and ask if there is something that I am missing. They are only employee's and even though they represent their company, does one really brand Chase on ones chest if they are an employee? Would you quit your job if you knew it would take months to find a new one just because your company screwed over a customer? Bad apples and good ones. I choose to focus on good ones, hince, the reason I did not give them my entire paycheck for an automatic deposit, they will have to earn it, and even then, they may never get all of it. I send an amount to two credit unions and two other banks. Just like the story where the miner quit digging 12 inches from the richest gold mine and sold for pennies on the dollar, I'm not quitting on Chase just because Providian/WaMu/Chase/Chasechecking gave me the royal run around; cause I'm always gonna hope for the reward in some end; however, the ones who treat me well will always get the bulk of the income off my business. The letter that Chase just sent me open reopening my VISA saying they will evaluate my account every 4 months for CLI makes me think that maybe them closing it stained with brown/yellow from Providian, then reopening it may have given me a brand new Chase card clean of any past haunts. I sure hope so, and that's why I'm hanging on - and, the age of the VISA is a good bump for my average age on accounts.

Thank you for giving me hope that I might also soon get a lucky roll with Chase.

Re: What I like about my Chase CC

I look at things a little differently. I like to judge corporations not by my own experience, but by how they treat the average person, and if you compare Chase to any other card company, guess who will be at the bottom of that one.

Really it's not about, oh they rate jacked me or they dropped my credit limit or they closed my card. If you compare a credit card company to a school bully that steals your lunch money, Chase would be the one who also pushes you down and kicks you for fun after taking your lunch money.

Example: No other credit card company would do this or has done this, people carrying balances, were ratejacked, their minimum payment was changed from 2 to 5% and then their account were closed, forcing them to make huge payments, or file bankruptcy in some cases. And this didn't happen to a few people, it happened to thousands.

They may treat you just fine Smiley Happy as long as you stay in their "good group" of people, but one day you may bump your credit usage to high and boom, who knows what. Nothing may happen with your account, but for me, I like being able to rely on the companies I deal with Smiley Very Happy

Re: What I like about my Chase CC

Congratuations!

I just want to say that I too have been a loyal dedicated Chase customer for several years now and never had any problems until I got further into debt with them. They had my mortgage, two car loans, and two credit cards (of mine, the other my hubby). One day they just decided out of the clear blue sky to cut the limts without notice. They only sent notice after the fact. In other words, they were nice to us too but it seemed the more we used them for our financial needs and the more we established good business relationships with them, the worse they treated us. Go figure!

Re: What I like about my Chase CC

First, WELCOME to the forums and I am sure as you read more posts you will discover that what people say regarding an institution in always from a "personal" standpoint, so I tend to not put a lot of stock in it.

If CHASE has been good to you and the relationship with them is enjoyable then GREAT, I am happy for you.

Just judge your dealings with them by the way they treat you. What someone says they have done to them is frankly unimportant, as it has no bearing on what they will do to you.

Frankly, sometime the "drama quotient" gets dialed up a few notches in some threads here but you will soon see that, LUCKILY the great majority of posters are just people looking for some info and sharing some.

This forum is FULL of people who offer solid advice and you will learn a lot about Credit Cards as you stay and read the threads.

GOOD luck with CHASE and again, WELCOME Smiley Happy

Re: What I like about my Chase CC

Chase is very generous with money.  I made $75.   $25 off the Amazon purchase, and received $50 in the mail to try out a service that was offered.
