I need to slow my roll this year.
I don't normally add cards like I have recently.
In 2019, I added the following cards to my wallet:
So I completed my Chase Quadfecta,
added two hotel cards with rich SUBs and rewards,
added two cards paying 2% uncategorized spend,
and got my lowest (7.49%) APR card (NFCU Platinum).
2019 was a very good year.
That said, I have (ONE) major goal card to add in 2020.
For some, this has been a hard card to get.
The Bank of America Premium Rewards card.
I have the Chase Quadfecta after working the past two years on it.
That works well when I want to redeem for travel. Not so much cash.
Now, I want the option to also redeem for high-value cash-back.
This is very much a relationship card and it's also most worthwhile only when you can magnify its' rewards payout through the Preferred Rewards program. So I have set the stage by opening bank accounts, making large deposits to qualify for the Preferred Rewards program, and letting it all age. I've already earned $300 SUB on the checking account with Direct Deposit and hope to earn the $500 SUB on PR card as well as $375 SUB on moving $100K into a Merrill Edge Self-Directed account. All-in-all, a grand total of $1175 in Bank of America SUBs within a few months. (After I set it all up, I'll cancel the direct deposit and just keep a minimal deposit in checking with most funds invested in Merrill.)
If I can get the PR card with Platinum Honors, it will earn 3.5% in cash-back on dining and travel but moreover 2.625% on uncategorized spend, no caps. And with the Preferred Rewards Platinum Honors, my Cash Rewards card will suddenly be worth a lot more to me also, earning 3.5% on groceries and at Costco, plus 5.5% on one of six select categories (Gas, Online Shopping, Dining, Travel, Drug Stores, or Home Improvement/Furnishings.)
My other goals for the year are to further grow my credit lines, especially with PenFed and NFCU. I may apply for another card or two but the PR card is my main target. If I look elsewhere, I would probably start by adding cards with Navy FCU, PenFed, or maybe US Bank. An AMEX card might be in my future again one day but probably not in 2020.

Other goal would be Chase Marriott whatever the $95 one is called, but I am over 5/24 and have never had a green check mark offer for any cobranded cards other than United. If it appears, it's mine. Otherwise I'm done for 2020.
Looks like someone is ready to be puttin on the Ritz (in the appropriate amount of time due to the CARD Act).
I genuinely don't have a "goal" card right now, which feels weird. I think my goal card is a good mortgage rate if/when I choose to move. For now it's just sit pretty and hope that things keep aging well and the scores keep jumping up...or I'll be another seedling in a month. Who knows.
At the top of my list is either canceling Delta Gold, or downgrade to the no AF Blue just to keep the account. If i could qualify for the SUB on Hilton Surpass, I'd drop Delta in a minute.
Next up will be to either PC my personal AAdvantage to the DC, or close it and transfer the CL to Biz AAdvantage/Diamond Preferred 50/50.
Also at some point I kind of want to get the Alask Mileage card because that seems to who I fly on the most locally. But haev never figured out a way to justify teh $75 AF. Yeah, I know the companion fare. But I travel solo 99% of the time and cannot guarantee its use.
Or BoA Travel Rewards.
I've decided against getting the CIP, don't think I'll ever get under 5/24. Plus I now have eneough BIZ cards to do what I need.

Rates are awesome right now. My mortgage rate from a few years ago was good, but I'm thinking of taking advantage of the lower mortgage rates right now to refinance. Navy FCU has a 15-year mortgage right now as low as 2.75% interest (3.003% APR) with 0.75 discount points. That might be another goal for me in 2020 but not a credit card goal.

For me, it wasn't so much about wanting the option for cash/flexibility as realizing I had a lot of miles and hotel points accumulated across several programs. Add in certificates / credits and the points I earned today wouldn't be seeing use for a long time.
I still pay AFs on my hotel and airline cards, but the AFs aren't that big and the perks are worthwhile.
I might get a BofA Cash Rewards card. Other than that, I'd need a 100k Platinum or a really amazing Virgin Atlantic offer.

I think this is one of the best cards out there and hopefully you'll snag it. Unfortunately, I don't even qualify for the lowest tier of 25%, but I should finally make it this year. Eventually, my IRA will get above $100k, but we'll see if this card and its perks are still around when I get there. If it does, it will become my "everything except the 5% categories" card. Until then, I'll only really use it for the cash back deals and the airline credit.

And I highly doubt it I’ll make it all the way through 2020 without accepting an Apple Card offer. 😂As far as my goal cards go - After gardening I want to get a new 2% daily driver and I'd love to get the Cash +. I eventually want to get cards with a couple of the of the big CU cards in my sig. I'm thinking I'll probably go for NFCU first, but I'm not sure. I want a 2% card, and it seems like the Alliant Platinum Rewards would be the easiest to get at this point. I want the Flagship card, but others have mentioned that it can be tricky to get one from NFCU right out of the gate. Decision making on any of these cards would be so much easier if everybody gave prequals with SLs like that d@#n Apple card!
Yes, for real. I went from DENIED in October to $1,500 in Nov. to $4,500 in Dec! They're toying with me! I am going to run another app again next month and see what they say this time as my FICO 8s are 50-60 points higher than my last $4,500 approval! No clue what my TU 9 is until I try again. Hope they don't mind all the apps and not taking the bate. I'll probably apply and accept if they have a good Apple financing offer when the 2020 iPhone launches though.
No clue. I keep changing my mind. Currently its probably WF Propel but thats subject to change at any moment
None...imo, the great majority of modern-day cc go-to interest rates are way too high...a serious turn-off for me in terms of wanting to do new cc apps...and so unless a CU comes out with a competitive new, non-geo-restricted low-APR cc with rewards, I currently have no goals cards for 2020...
