What brand is the Capital One Quicksilver card, MasterCard or Visa?

Over on CK, the Capital One Quicksilver card (both the $0 annual fee version and the $39 annual fee) are showing up under my "Recommendations". I currently have credit scores ranging from 654 (Experian) to 673 (Equifax), up by about 100 points from a year ago, and currently have a Capital One secured MC and an Amazon store card (Synchrony), both with decent credit utilization and perfect on-time/over-minimum payment histories, as well as a student loan that I've been repaying on time for the last 14 months since my last deferment ended. I'm seriously thinking about applying for this card as I'd like to keep building up my credit to get in position for replacing my car (which is 16+ years old and worn-out!) later this year, especially as I just got a promotion at work which will substantially increase my annual salary. (I also need to replace my old iPhone 4S which is pretty much obsolescent by now!)

My specific question is, is the Quicksilver a MasterCard or a Visa? The promo image I see over on CK doesn't show a brand logo and I can't find any information anywhere definitively saying which one it is. I know the difference between the two payment networks is more cosmetic than real and that the real things to look for are the benefits, terms and conditions offered by the issuing bank, so admittedly I'm probably obsessing on a small point. I guess the real question is; is it worth it to try applying for the Quicksilver at this point in rebuilding my credit?

Welcome to MyFICO

First, to answer your question, the QS is a VISA But some people have them in MC versions.

To answer your overall question about applying, couple points.  Please ignore what CK says about recommendations.  They are marketing the cards because that how they make money. The scores you list?  If they are real FICO 8 scores then you are within the range of being approved. Additionally. CapitalIne has a preapproval link that you should check out as it is a good indicator of whether you'll be approved or not.  Good luck if you choose to apply.

Re: What brand is the Capital One Quicksilver card, MasterCard or Visa?

Thanks! I know the Transunion and Experian scores are reliable, at any rate, because the former is confirmed on Capital One's site and the latter comes from my insurance provider (USAA), so I have a pretty good idea of the zone into which I fall. According to the preapproval link, I do pre-qualify for Platinum and Quicksilver One so I'll look into one of those (as I noted, I have their Secured MC already so my good history with them may have helped with the preapproval).

P.S. I wonder if it might be better to wait until I have the first paycheck/paystub at my new salary rate so that I have documented proof of my new salary (which will be in about 3 weeks)? The situation is a little complex since I already had a cost-of-living raise applied to my salary last month (I'm a government employee) and was informed about my promotion just two weeks ago, so my pretax salary has jumped by several thousand dollars in less than two months!

Re: What brand is the Capital One Quicksilver card, MasterCard or Visa?

CapitalOne changed from VISA to Mastercard since a few months ago. If your card is Visa it will stay Visa, no change for current clients.

If you app now you will get a MC. I'm not really sure if all of them are WEMC (Venture, VentureOne, QuickSilver and QuickSilverOne)

Its interesting how so many people think that they are one or the other...  I've had various CapitalOne Platinums and QS1 cards over the past 4 years, and other than my Playstation Visa, they've all been Mastercard.  I wonder if maybe it depends on you credit score on approval?

Total Cards: 24 | Total Limit: $304,250

Current FICO 8 Scores: EQ: 841| TU: 815 | EX: 814

Hard Inquiries: 1

It can get confusing... at one time, QS and Venture were both Visa, and QS1 and the 'Platinum' were both MasterCards.  A few months ago Capital One started offering QS and Venture MasterCards to new cardholders if you used a link on an affiliate site (like Credit Karma).  Now, if you apply for a new QS, Venture, QS1 or 'Platinum' on the Capital One site it will be a MasterCard (WEMC for Venture and QS).

That said, there are many people who still have the "old" Venture and QS Visa Signature cards, and of course there are those who did a PC and got a QS or Venture MasterCard before they were open to new applications.

At this time, the only Capital One Visa applications still around are the student 'Journey' card, the co-brand PlayStation Visa, and the Spark business cards (I might have missed a cobrand card in this list).

It's important to note that Capital One doens't do network changes from MC to Visa (or vice versa); whatever you start off as is what you keep even through PCs.  The only exception to this is when Capital One takes over a card from another bank that is either on the Discover or Amex network... in that case once the transition is complete they will change the network (to MasterCard, in my experience).

Cap One's site doesn't show a FICO score, some type of Vantage I believe.

From CapitalOne website: Venture, Venture One and Quicksilver are now World Elite Master Card for new apps.  I have a Venture Visa from 2 years ago, they will not change it to Mastercard, at least for now.  Quicksilver One is Platinum MasterCard.

Re: What brand is the Capital One Quicksilver card, MasterCard or Visa?

Before you get hung up on whether or not the card is a MC or VS, how old is your secured Cap1? If it's less than 6 months old you'll get an automatic denial for another Cap1 card.
