With limited history and a low income your options are limited. People mentioned Discover but you'll probably find that you won't be able to use the card much while abroad. With a low income and short history I'd recommend the Capital One Journey card. It was my first card. I applied with a 6K income and was denied. Then minutes later applied with a 12K income and was approved. And that seems like one of the easiest cards to get for a student. Also the no foreign transaction fees and 1.25% cash back is nice. I started with a $300 limit and got it up to $500 in 3 months and $1500 in 12 months. Haven't used the card in about two years now but got it up to a $7500 limit so it can grow. If I was in your shoes, I'd go with this card.

I don't think you have the income for either of those cards you mentioned. If I were you, I'd probably garden credit for the remainder of your spring semester and apply for Cap 1 Quicksilver. With QS you won't have an extremly high requirement to hit the SUB.
