Re: What card to apply for to get sons credit started on own?

Has your son found out his CL's yet for his Amex and Discover cards?

Did he speak with Barclay and Cap1 about his applications?

Just curious to hear how it turned out for him.  Keep us posted.

Re: What card to apply for to get sons credit started on own?

My son received his Discover It today in the mail. They gave him $1000 to start with. I don't think that's too shabby considering it's his first "real" card on his own at his age.

So, just to prove how far off the FAKO scores are...his FAKO score was 747 and his FICO score on this Discover showed EQ as 689. Big difference, but he's getting there.

I just wanted to share the updates. He's still waiting on the Amex.

Barclays: 866-408-4064 (Credit Analyst) <----Barclay recon----Have him call, most likely a security review!

Chase: 888-245-0625 (Credit Analyst) <------Chase recon-----Have him call and try to get someone that sounds cheery!

You've already taken the HP's! Fight for those tradelines! I didn't list CapOne, because I think they are a waste of time.

Good luck and keep us posted!

Congratulations! Now he should "forget" about the AU cards and put all of his expenses on his own cards.

Also, +1 in the Barclays recon. Make him call!!

Re: What card to apply for to get sons credit started on own?

He received his AMEX today and they gave him $2300 to start with.

They also have an entirely different FICO score for him as well   Smiley Surprised   They have his score as 722 with Experian.

So I now wait for 6 months before taking him off all (?) of my AU accounts? He will definitely be using his own cards now.

As stated before, he already called Chase and was denied.

Do I have him wait until he receives his letter of denial/approval in the mail for Barclays before calling? What does he need to say to them? I have never had any luck when I have done calls myself, so I'm probably the last person for him to ask what to say or do. LOL

Congrats! A great score and starting limit!

As far as removing him as AU, I would keep him on at least a year to let his other accounts properly mature. Also, when you remove them, make sure they are reporting $0 balances before you make the request with the CCC's.

Congrats again!

What info do you need to make a decision? What does he need to say to them? I have never had any luck when I have done calls myself, so I'm probably the last person for him to ask what to say or do. LOL

Send a message through Facebook on Capital One and ask to have them look at the ap and call to find out about getting it approved. FB seems to get good results.

But the call was part of the application process and not hte number provided here. I read many posts that confirm that Chase don't want to be the first to give credit and do not take AU as consideration. He already has the no, maybe he can turn that to yes with a 500 card.
