The reason I ask this question is because I was approved for the Blue Sky with a credit limit of 10000 a couple of months back and I am still astonished, that I even got approved and with such a high limit. I am just trying to get a better understanding on how credit issuers give credit. Oh and btw the real reason I am astonished is because up to that point I had 2 credit cards, one that was about 1 and 2 months old and the other only 2 months old. Thank you for the answers in advance.
Well, what are some of your other stats?

one thing that is certain is that AMEX has their own internal risk score. They just dont base approvals off Fico scores.

Score wise, at that point I think I was in the 680's, not sure, they never sent me the score they approved me with. I also was never late on the two other cards and I put my correct salary which isn't much as I just recently graduated for my university.
What is your income?
Are you an AU on anyone elses accounts?
Do you have other accounts that were closed still reporting on your credit report?
Do you have a Home or Auto Loan that may be sitting on your report?
Investiment accounts?
Amex looks at your whole financial picture, Income is the biggie, 100k plus salary and make up for a sub 700 fico and get you a good limit.

I didn't want to like so I put 25,000 on the application for salary. I was never an AU on anyone's account. My Wells Fargo student CC was my first CC and up to that point I had for a year and a couple of months and no home loans or auto loans. I do have some stock and a 401K though. I wonder if the customer rep misunderstood me and put a higher salary lol.
