What is going on with CITI???

I used to post a lot a few months ago ... last posts included me trying to get a GW on some lates with CITI from 4 years ago.

Well since then ... I have been skating on thin ice with them and have been leaving my balance on the credit card right at about 1415 out of a 1500 limit. The only reason I've done this is because they are the lowest APR and I wanted to go ahead and lower the balances on some other credit cards first. Well, today I go to check the account and I now have a credit limit of $3000. They doubled my credit limit without haing to ask and without having to have completely paid off my balance. So I figured maybe they took the lates off too ... nope ... I guess they just tossed my GW letter in the garbage Smiley Sad

Extra limit does put my utilization under 50% though so that's a good thing.

Re: What is going on with CITI???

I couldn't help but notice your post and wanted to comment.

I've been a Citi member for about 15 years and have always had nothing but good things to say about their customer service.

However, I've noticed in the past 4-6 months that something strange is going on. Here's an example.

I requested a credit line increase via my account on-line around March 15, 2008. They've never responded. In fact, they've never pulled a CR to verify any information. Today is May 28th and not a peep out of them. Strange.

Here's another example: I usually order the convenience checks about every 4 months (they come in a package of 3 checks) because they come in handy to pay for some items that I would normally pay with a 'check' from my regular checking account. I pay in full each month so the fee never catches me for the cash advance. However, I have made 4 requests in the past 6 months and they have never acknowledged my request. They typically send me an email or send me a letter in the mail stating that they are processing my request.

Is their customer service going down hill or is this just a busy time of year for them? I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt but something weird is going on with them.

How does this work?  I was under the impression that you get charged the fee immediately, and that interest starts being added immediately.  At least that is what happened when I used a check from Citi two months ago.  Where do I get the special checks? Smiley Happy

I think you are the exception. I find Citi to have very good customer service. Matter of fact I have little bad to say about any of the reps I have spoken to from any of my issuers.

I thought that the Merryl Lynch Visa was a FIA/BOA product? Is it now part of Citi?

Re: What is going on with CITI???

Sorry for the late reply, been very busy at work.

I will agree that it is odd though, Citi used to take advantage of every opportunity to show me all the good things they are doing for me or justify why they can't possibly, legally GW this or forgive that. Through snail mail of course. I used to have credit card problems with them and they dropped my limit ti $1060 (don't ask me how they came up with that number). Then they sent me a letter to thank me for my being a good client and a bumped me up to $1500. But when they bumped me up to $3000, I didn't get anything. Lately all I've gotten from them is statements.

I did recently get a Citi corporate procurement card through my company. So I am thinking. Does the left hand know what the right hand is doing at Citi? Is that increase a product of me obtaining a corporate card with a Fortune 50 company? Has anyone heard of business accounts helping personal accounts?

Re: What is going on with CITI???

Though, they seem to know the accounts they have, I am not sure if they influence their decision.
