What to do about Citi Drivers Edge denial?

I have a pretty good rapport with Citibank, however after recently applying for a Drivers Edge card, I received a denial today stating:

...proportion of balances to credit limits is too high on revolving accounts, and

...your credit report shows one or more accounts recently past due.

That is completely incorrect. I have worked my butt off to get my credit pristine and have not had one late payment for over two years. I admit I had a chargeoff with Verizon in 2003, however I made good on that way back then and paid them off. In addition, my current utilization is 11%, and if my min payments are $30, I usually pay $400 or more. I pulled my Equifax report which they referenced and found a line which says "Accounts past due: 0. Zero!

How should I proceed. Do I really need that card? Probably not since Citi also included my new Div Plat in the mail today, but I feel they did not review my credit report properly, or were looking at an old one. They did say I could mail them a current version of my report for recon. Should I do it? And if I do, the report is 26 pages long. Do I have to send the entire report or just the pages that indicate I have a pretty good current credit history?

Appreciate everyone's assistance here. Hope you all can assist me and give me some suggestions as to how I should handle this.

Re: What to do about Citi Drivers Edge denial?

is there a number to call, if not call and ask for credit dept. i was hit w/a cld and when i spoke with csr they said recent lates. no way, she said call back and ask for credit. the rep at credit admitted it was a mistake (human error) w/they reviewed my cr and my cl was reinstated.

also hd/citi declined me for a loan, i called the number on the letter and reconed it for an approval.

good luck!

The letter doesn't provide a contact number. It just asks to send a current credit report within 30 days.

I forget to mention my current score is 720.

Re: What to do about Citi Drivers Edge denial?

Well, here's what I did. I pulled my Experian report. highlighted that no accounts were past due and that my current util was 8%. I wrote them a nice but firm letter asking them for recon and mailed the entire 27 page document off to them tonight. Seems like a lot of work, but its the principal of the thing. Thanks to this forum, I'm not as naive as I used to be about credit issues. Years ago, I would have accepted the denial, but I know better and know my credit report is much better than they indicated on the denial letter. If I get turned down again, it will be based on current facts, and not the eroneous info they quoted. We'll see what happens. If anyone is interested, let me know and I'll post the response I receive next week or so.
