@webhopper wrote:USAA would likely give you another high limit card. Amex Zync for future backdating purposes and to get your foot in the door later on. But again, if your EX score is low, I wouldn't app for Zync until you've gardened for a while. Right now your ability to get really superb rewards cards is going to be hampered by your scores. Most really nice rewards cards are reserved for applicants in the super prime catagory.
WH!
Yeah, Amex Zync for all the usual reasons; however, think you might be surprised at the way rewards packages are going. Anyone qualified for a BOA secured now can get their full prime 1-2-3 Rewards package (though not the Accelerated Rewards one), more lenders will move to match in the future.
Anyway you know my opinion: high CL's are overrated for everything but bragging rights unless you spend a lot on a given card, in which case they're nice for not having to make multiple payments during a given cycle... this is assuming standard forum procedures for anyone who at least pays attention to their utilization occasionally.

I never knew that about BOA 123, as I've never used BofA for anything. I've always banked with Chase, ever since they bought Bank One in early 2000s. My first two auto loans were financed through Bank One, and they got turned into Chase Accounts. In that case, BOA 123 might be an ideal candidate for the Original Poster.
I guess everyone's use of CCs is different. for me, a lower limit card doesn't do much, as my average CC spending is upwards of 3k per month. but there again everyone's situation is different. My husband and I both work, he makes 70k per yr, I make 120k per yr... He's on the road going back and forth to Arkansas from Oklahaoma for his job. Amex Zync has really helped us as far as having flexibility to charge things. For me, the limit gives me peace of mind. The company I work for is global, and they don't give employees a company CC...so everything is done using personal credit, and reimbursements. Back in the days when I relied on debit card and only one credit card, this was very tricky because company reimbursements could be upwards of 3k per month. My discover card limit in those days was 3500... When I was trying to get a mortgage earlier this yr, It was a nightmare because of yo yoing balance on Discover card, and insufficient limits to buffer utilization.
ok so i have to ask. how are you a full usaa member but not eligible for nfcu? id let your inquiries age for another 6 mos then maybe apply for chase saphire preferred. it has a min 5,000 cl and usually they wont approve unless you have a matching cl which you do with usaa. def axe the 2 fp cards cause those will keep you from getting in with amex and prob citi
Dump the FP cards as soon as possible (both a strategic and tactical decision). Your USAA CL should give you all the credit you need for a year (strategic decision). Do not apply for anything else until any and all inquiries on ALL of your credit reports reaches the one year mark (strategic decision). At that point, barring anything unforeseen, your FICO scores should be better and most cards including AMEX, Citi, Discover or others should be available easily when you apply. Apply for one or two (at the most) new cards of your choosing (strategic and tactical). Repaeat this process as needed keeping future considerations of mortgage or other large expenditures in mind.
ALWAYS think strategically, not tactically.

Thats the funny part about USAA/NFCU. NFCU is "easier" to get in, just have to be a family member to have access to all their products. USAA you have to be a vet, active duty, or gain full membership from parents.
