@kudosalert wrote:good idea on the upgrade offer. the Aspire airline credits, i believe they are letting you use at US groceries stores and restaurants now. unfortunately for me, i'm outside the US right now and have no desire to come back any time soon so a 2nd Aspire card probably doesnt make sense for me.
I'm at 5/24 right now and getting a Chase card is higher priority then another sub on the no AF card. Thanks for letting us know the option of upgrading to a 2nd Aspire.
@Anonymous wrote:I'm in the same boat. I'm going to see if I can get an upgrade offer for a second aspire card. They normally offer upgrade offers even if you already have an aspire card. At least that was the case pre Covid. I can only assume they wouldn't mind collecting another a high annual fee. The resort credit and free night pay for the fee by itself. Even if you can't really use the airline travel credit.
I would probably wouldn't downgrade if you haven't received the SUB for the no annual fee card. I would probably transfer available credit and cancel. Then re-apply for the no annual fee card to collect the SUB and see if they give you an upgrade offer for that card. Hilton was very aggressive In Offering upgrade offers before. I think they would still continue. Especially because Amex blight like 1 billion usd in Hilton points a few months back.
@kudosalert wrote:I have both the Aspire and Surpass. Obvious choice here is to down grade the Surpass to a no AF Hilton Honors card this year. Is it safe to do that now that I have had the Surpass for 1 year and the 2nd year's AF just posted to my statement?
Will they pro-rate the AF and give me a partial refund?
What about asking for a retention offer on the the Surpass? I'll probably keep the Aspire because I like the perks of Hilton Diamond. I'll probably save my points for at least 1 Hilton stay this year.
Resort Credits for Hilton and Marriott AMEX cards only applies to Restaurant, and only through the end of August 2020. I've used my Aspire on groceries where AMEX codes them as groceries, and no portion of my resort credit was applied there. Restaurants, yes.
