What to do with Radio Shack?

OK, so one of my limiting factors is length of credit history - 7 years. I'm going through a box of old junk and what do I find? My old Radio Shack AnswersPlus card that I've had since 1996. Hmmmm.... maybe?

I know that this card was still reporting current to the CRAs as recently as 2004/5 when I checked my credit at that time. But it hasn't been there for the last 6 months or so that I've been watching my reports, so I had actually forgotten that it even existed.

I called the number and entered my account number, social, and some other info, and the system found my account! It said $0 balance and $0 available credit, last payment in Jan 1997. Then I got a rep on the phone and she said the account had been closed last May due to inactivity and couldn't be reactivated. I asked if I could apply for a new card and have it re-aged to 1996, and she said no. So....

If the account was closed last May, shouldn't it appear on my reports until 2017? Can anybody think of anything to try to get that age back on my reports?

**crickets**

Anybody? I'm wondering if I can write them a letter and ask them to report the account closed in good standing in 5/07 so that it will show the age and all those currents until 2017.

Re: What to do with Radio Shack?

I doubt it very seriously as you inquired after the credit reporting time period had expired. Smiley Sad

IMO your only alternative is to start over, sadly to say.
